Udupi, Jul 20: Rain water coupled with unscientific sewerage and drainage system of city has created water logging on many roads. Rain water and dirty water from drainage flow on the road and pedestrians find it hard to walk on them.

The grim situation of this kind exists at Gundibail, Badagupete and several other places. The drainage water not only flows on the road but also splashes on pedestrians when vehicles pass by. It is difficult to walk about on the road due to the situation but the City Corporation has turned a blind eye to the woes of people.

Gundibail corporator had allegedly assaulted a person who unknowingly entered in a corporation meeting but has done nothing to solve the drainage problem.

Ward residents Gururaj and Shanta said that neither Udupi Municipal Corporation (UMC) nor the corporator have responded to the pleas that mosquitoes are breeding in the stagnating drainage water.

As drainage water has stagnated at Badagupete in several places, it is difficult to walk about. The manholes in between most roads and on their either sides in 25 wards have created dangers. There are several instances when vehicle drivers meet with accidents as rain water remains in the manholes. The neglect by the corporation has anguished the citizens.

Many people have been suffering from malaria, dengue and skin deceases as the corporation has failed to solve the drainage problem. People alleged that corporation officials only fight in the meetings but do nothing to solve the problems in the corporation limits.

Citizens have urged the officials and elected representatives to wake up at least now and attend to drainage and road repair works.
