Puttur, Jul 20: In an incident which happened at Pajjadka Buderia in Alankaru village near Kadaba on Wednesday July 19, a dog and four snakes died after a corroded power cable snapped and fell into a field.

Geetha, wife of Kukka, employed in Alankaru Cooperative Agricultural Bank, had visited a nearby plantation to collect hay for cattle on Wednesday. She collected hay without noticing the fact that a live electric cable had got snapped and fallen down. She saw a little while later that her dog that had accompanied her to the spot had started to make strange sounds and writhe in pain a few feet ahead of her. She went near the dog to help it but saw that a power cable had fallen there. She immediately retreated and ran home safely.

A little while later, it was seen that four common kraits had also died after coming in contact with the cable at the same spot. Since the commencement of this year, snapping of power cables has become a common occurrence in Baderia and nearly two dozen such cases have happened. The area where these incidents are happening houses an Anganwadi centre and some residences, which face the risk of danger from these cables. Although the panchayat had passed three resolutions in the past seeking the cables to be replaced and sent the same to Mescom, Mescom has not done anything to address this concern, locals say.

How sad ,and sametime high risk to animals and people.Mescom bieng a monopolist, they dont bother to do their duty ,dont bother to check in monsoon regularly,or to install their wires intact.People have to suffer.Time for a new change and multiconcern of electricity.we dont know the one who does wiring has a certificate or no.Important that he comes only after paying extra for a electric wiring. How long should we tolerate this? And we think of only meat, sukka, and cow vigilantes.
