Bengaluru: Ex-IAS officer begins probe into Sasikala 'jail bribery' case

Bengaluru, Jul 18 (PTI): The Karnataka government has appointed retired IAS officer Vinay Kumar to probe into the alleged special treatment meted out to AIADMK (Amma) leader V K Sasikala and other "erroneous" practises in the central jail here.

Kumar was appointed by the government for the probe after D Roopa, shunted out as DIG (Prisons) yesterday, highlighted in a report the alleged special privileges given to Sasikala and others inside Parapana Agrahara Central Jail.

"The Home Department had issued notification (to start a probe) in this regard yesterday itself," Kumar told PTI. He, however, refused to divulge the deadline given by the government to finish the probe and submit the report.

"I will not be providing any more details, butwill come before the media if required," Kumar added.
Kumar had met Home Secretary Subhash Chandra yesterday, an official said.

Kumar is in possession of the report submitted by Roopa, who had alleged irregularities and destruction of evidence, the official also said adding that Kumar has also been given the copies of the show-cause notices issued to the officials for the alleged lapses.

The government had yesterday transferred Roopa and asked DGP (Prisons) H N Sathyanarayana Rao to go on compulsory leave after they sparred over a report on the allegations in public.

The government also shifted Bengaluru central jail Chief Superintendent Krishna Kumar, who had also been blamed in the report by Roopa for alleged illegal activities in the prison.

Roopa's transfer had stirred a huge controversy with the Opposition slamming the decision.

The issue figured in Parliament today when BJP members from Karnataka were seen holding placards asking the Karnataka government to protect honest officers.

In a report submitted on July 12 to Rao, Roopa had said there was "a talk" that Rs two crore had exchanged hands to give preferential treatment to Sasikala and there were allegations against him also.

Rao had rubbished the charges as "absolutely false, baseless and wild."

Roopa had also said a special kitchen was functioning in thejail for Sasikala in violation of the prison rules.

Sasikala is lodged at Parappana Agrahara central prison here ever since her conviction in February in the disproportionate assets case along with her two relatives V N Sudhakaran and Elavarasi, all serving a 4-year jail term.

Verdict is already out. Roopa is at fault. Shashikala got no special treatment. She is working as a cook and supplying food to all prisoners. So all the pots & pans were kept in her cell. she was wearing colored cloths ,as white cloths get dirty white cooking. Recommend Roopa should be demoted as sub-inspector.Krishna Kumar must be reinstated in his old post with promotion.

God knows how Jaya Amma was given 5 star treatment in jail and how much money was distributed from jail administration to judiciary system.
Sasikala should be given punishment to serve Idlis to inmates.

The problem is, in-spite of knowing how corrupt our politicians are, we the lay people of India are forced to elect them back to power. Im sure there are people who will give their life for this Sasikala even if they have been told and given evidence that she is enjoying her life in prison. All this drama is going to give her more credit and power in the current political climate. That's the hard fact. If atall things have to change, there needs to be radical change in the way we these politicians are selected.

Previously there was a big hue and cry from her about not able to sleep and what not.Afterwards no noice .That means she must have getting VIP.facilities.Otherwise how come she gets2-3rooms and favourite food cooked, where other inmates have to struggle for a good food.Vip treatment will not get for umme. When she comes out too she will be a candidate for minister,or already elected one.So functiones our politic.Punishment?only for poor people.she must be enjoying her best time in life,

According to DIG Roopas allegation the report earlier given in DW indicates that sasikala has got 2 - 3 rooms with cooking facility etc. which shows that she is enjoying a luxurious life in Jail. so from this it is evident something fishy is going on in the jail as alleged by DIG Roopa. So take stern action against those who provided all these luxurious facilities to sasikala who is in jail.

By the time all these lengthy procedures, red, black and blue tapes are accessed, analyzed, studied, voted, recommended and done with Sasikala would have enjoyed her honey moon in luxurious and spacious dungeon and out and ready to confront and start a new endeavour with full of energy and new found experience. Finally the only outcome from this whole episode Roopa will be either transferred to some remote area where one can not produce any evidence whatever happens to ones life or demoted to position that her word doesn't carry any weight. Why Politicians are so scared of Truth everywhere while they themselves shout Satya Meva Jayate but do exactly the opposite?????
