Mangaluru, Jul 18: In a happy news for aspiring journalists in the city and around, Sandesha Foundation, that has already made a name for itself for promoting art and culture, on Monday July 17 inaugurated its short-term journalism course. The inaugural ceremony was held at Sandesha campus at Bajjodi here.
The 16-day course is being conducted by Sandesha Foundation for Culture and Education (R) in assoiation with Canara Communications Centre and Daijiworld Weekly.
Chandrakala Nandavara, veteran writer inaugurated the course along with the director of Sandesha Fr Victor Vijay Lobo, director of Canara Communications Centre Fr Richard D'Souza, Stany Bela from Daijiworld and Br Victor Crasta.
Addressing the gathering, Chandrakala Nandavara said, "Journalists have always stood for truth and sided with justice. Journalists are expected to never compromise on giving exact and clear details to readers or viewers. If a journalist gives false or half information about an incident or programme it is equal to cheating the society.
"Today's journalists are under pressure from their superiors or external elements. This is affecting their sincerity and the meaning of profession. Sometimes journalists are not sincere to their profession. Without full knowledge of incidents, they try to write something on their own in the news. Such types of journalists are making people turn away from news reading," she opined.
In his welcome speech, Fr Victor Vijay said, "Sandesha conducts journalism course every year, where in well-known personalities in the journalism field take up classes for students. This short-term course helps the students learn about journalism and get basic tips on being on the field. I wish all success to the students."
Delivering the keynote address, senior journalist Manohar Prasad told journalism students, "Command over local languages is an advantage for journalists. At the same time, the habit of reading and learning new things makes them perfect in the field. The passion for investigation makes them climb the ladder of success and fame. Observation is another important factor which every journalist needs to adopt. Today you have come here to gain knowledge of journalism. I have been a part of this course for many years and I can guarantee that this course will teach you a lot and show you the path to become a good journalist."

Classes will be held daily on weekdays (Monday to Friday) from 5 pm to 7:30 pm. Leading working journalists and eminent writers from the regional and national media will be the resource persons during the course.
The course will be an introduction to journalism covering various aspects of print, broadcast and web media. The participants will be awarded certificates during the valedictory function which will be held on August 5 at 3:30 pm.
