Kundapur, Jul 18: The meeting of the revamped beat committee was held by the Udupi district police at Kundapur taluk panchayat auditorium on Monday, Jul 17.

Superintendent of police K T Balakrishna chaired the session.

Speaking on occasion, he said, “People's participation is vital for the police to maintain peace and order in society. The beat system saw several changes in the past. The changes were bought in Belgaum two years ago to strengthen the force. Changes in law with this regard could be revolutionary."  


    






















“The nature of crimes has changed compared to 25 years ago. The faces and disguises are different in the modern world. Crime is ever increasing. Crime can be prevented when people participate with the police. If so, 100% success can be achieved through it,” he said.

“Citizens are being included in the improved beat committee. The information provided by the members will be kept confidential,” he said.

DySP Pravin Nayak speaking on occasion said, "The improved beat system has opportunities for the police to perform their duties well. Beats perform under the supervision of ASI. The information is provided on grama panchaya levels. As the department goes to the people, the police gets necessary information and crimes reduce,” he said.

Circle inspector Manjappa said that there were 20 beats earlier. “Now, 141 beats are formed and staff is recruited. Udupi district has secured fifth rank in the top ten positions,” he added.

An identification card was given to citizens who were part of beat committee.

Jyothi, Kundapur women’s constable, Madhusoodan of  rural police station, Vital of Shankernarayan police station, Shankera of Amesebailu station, citizen committee members Vishwanatha Shetty, G Mohammed Gulvadi, Bharath Kamath Siddapura, Janaki Billava Koteshwara, Ganesh Kumbhashi shared their opinions.

Kundapur police circle inspector Manjappa hosted the programme.
