New Delhi, Jul 17: If you are on a flight to New Delhi on Tuesday July 18 and may find a box strapped to the passenger seat, then don’t be surprised. The box is travelling with an air ticket and has its name printed as ‘Mr Ballot Box’.

According to a report by Deccan Herald, Mr Ballot Box travels as a passenger and not in the cargo for security reasons. It is this box, which contains the precious votes which will decide India’s 14th President.

To avoid any kind of tampering and with an intention to keep the box always in the sight of the security officials, the 'Ballot Box is booked as a passenger.

The Presidential elections took place on Monday from 10 am to 5 pm. The members of the Electoral College in different states and union territories cast their votes and placed them in the Ballot Box.

These boxes from the different states will be flown back to New Delhi, along with the officials in business class of the plane.

Days before the election, officials of different state legislatures travelled to New Delhi to collect the ballot boxes. The boxes were placed in high security strong rooms, always under the strict vigil of the CCTV Camera. The box was taken out only on Monday, the day of the poll, and was sealed after the voting. It will be flown back as a passenger to the national capital.

Once in the capital, the boxes will be kept under tight security and will be taken out on the counting day, which is July 20. Till then, only the boxes know if the next President is BJP-led NDA's candidate, Ram Nath Kovind or Meira Kumar from the joint Opposition.

What a waste of money in carrying ballot box as passenger in business class along with officials. In this age of Internet why can't they count the ballots in legislature itself and announce the results in New Delhi.

    People,

Indian Election commission is worst in the world...next only to Afghanistan....its s retiring place for favourite retired IAS officers...they are good for nothing...

Everywhere in the world including Pakistan...for any elections...immediately after elections,,, votes are counted in the same place and conveyed to election commission through phone/fax and results are announced within hours of ballots are cast...

These moron take these boxes in planes, what will happen if plan crashes and ballot box is destroyed???...order reelection????...

Count ballots where polling is held in the presence of candidates representatives...compile the tally at election commission and announce the results within hour of closing the polls...like they do everywhere in the world...

Our Election results and dragged unnecessarily because to satisfy ego of these 3 election commissioners( 3 retired IAS),,,who think they are 'Brihaspatis" of the world....Ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch....

Langoolacharya., Belman/Wash DC., I fully agree with you. Being involved with election industry myself, I am shocked to hear about the way elections are done and results are declared for President's position. What is the guarantee, the boxes are not swapped in New Delhi? Technologically, we are supposed to be far ahead of the world but not in election transparency. In every respect, we are going back into stone age.

Benedict Canada has made a valid point. What is the guarantee the ballet box is not swapped in New Delhi, prior to boarding the air craft ? No transparency at all. Everywhere cheating. By hook or crook fool the public and retain the power. Everything is for sale in India. Mother India is passing through a very very critical phase
