Mangaluru: Passengers complain about harassment in Nizamuddin Express

Daijiworld Media Network- Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru Jul 16: A young girl, who was travelling in Nizamuddin Express along with five other passengers, has narrated their ordeal during the journey by Nizamuddin Express from New Delhi to Mangaluru.

As per details, the girl named Ganashree, who hails from Kodagu, boarded Nizamuddin Express train from New Delhi on July 14 along with other 5 passengers. During their journey, when the train reached Maharashtra, one of the passenger’s mobile was stolen and they could not do anything about the lost mobile. But there was more to come. Later a miscreant tried to snatch the chain from Ghanashree's grandmother but failed. But he managed to flee from the spot by jumping off the train. Ghanashree had to pull the alert chain so that they could complain to the railway guard or TC, but no one came for their rescue and train started moving again.

“We also noticed that some strangers were selling tobacco, cigarettes and alcohol and when we questioned them, they threatened us. So we decided to protest at Panvel when the train reached there. When we complained to the RPF police, they too took the matter very lightly and refused to take the complaint and ordered to complain at local police station,” said Ganashree.

“Many strangers were loitering around in the sleeper compartment. There were no gunmen or TC in the train. Even after we reached Mangaluru, no TC did turn up at any point to check the tickets. Even pulling the alert chain does not attract the attention of train staff,” she added.

“Before reaching Kaman Road we had pulled the chain three times but train kept on moving. At Kaman Road, a railway guard threatened us for pulling the chain and told that we will face serious consequence if we tried to do it again. In fact entire compartment stood by us and we stopped the train for 20 minutes and informed them that we will not allow the train to move until TC arrives. But they told us they will complain with police in next station Panvel.” Ganashree informed.

“It was not only our compartment but every compartment had same problems. A lady who was physically challenged too was travelling in the train and was seated in handicap department. She was so scared as a 50 year man was drinking alcohol,” she said.

“RPF police too told us that they could not do anything and asked us to complaint at the local police station. RPF gave us protection only for three hours until the train reached Goa. After that they were not seen.” she concluded.

Out of the six passengers three of them were women which included Ganashree and her grandmother. The passengers who reached Mangaluru with great difficulty are planning to complain to local police.

Though these things are common these days in trains, Ganashree says she cannot take the things lightly and wants to see the trains to be made very safe for passengers especially women and physically challenged.

Mangalore police, why karnataka police are on duty at bc Road. The police machinery is kept engaged by few. Robbers, looters, rapists, molesters can have a free day. Your luggage content and your dress style is more important now, not your valuables. Let us admit that our priorities have rotten, across the nation

This happens only when gimbala is more than sambala.
Government can recruit more people in railways and police departments and decrease the unemployment....
Even now we are facing severe shortage of judges compare to cases pending in the courts...
Only problem in democratic India we elect uncultured, shamesless lier politicians, who only give fool promises, who never heard the words safety and security, who only knows how to blame opponent, who is expert in playing caste politics, who forgot the humanity at their mother's womb are responsible for the happening arround us.

And we talk of introducing metros, bullet train and what not luxury trains when our basic set up itself isn't proper. If people can't travel safely in a public train in day time then what is the railway staff, the railway police for? What is the Railway minister for? I remember travelling in the Mangalore-Bangalore train long bavk with my family. Was disgusted the way people freely roam around even in sleeper coaches, feels so unsafe esp when you are travelling with women alongside. It's a sad state of affairs and the railways should first focus on making the primary priorities set straight rather than putting hands info ambiguous projects..

Not surprised with this article at all. To get a real taste of atrocities, try to travel on train from any point to UP, MP and you will realize the sorry state of security. Even after having reserved seat, you are lucky if you are allowed to travel in peace as someone else will forcibly occupy your seat and you can do nothing about it. Travel on Indian railways is not only safe but a nightmare.

I wish good luck to educated young lady but she should be ready to face disappointment as nothing will ever happen. The local police will point a finger to else where and that police will yet will ask where the incident happened and will request her to go to that jurisdiction to register her complaint. At the end of the day, the railway crew, the railway police, the local police on the way - all are hand in glow with these creatures who loot the commuters. Can someone explain when suitcases were hurled out and gold stolen forcibly from sleeping commuters, why the train seem to slow down drastically and once the culprits jump off, the train starts picking up speed? Does signals also gets synchronized in this plan. It can happen only in India.

on another note, BBC just reported that BJP is the 4th most corrupt political party in the world. Ofcourse, Pakistan's current party is the first. If anyone has doubts, do a search on web. Does this also tell that the actual security all over India is gone to dumps ever since this party came to power?

What amazes me is, I have travelled a lot on Rajadani express several times between Delhi and Mumbai during 1980's but never faced any of this problems then.

Is there any doubt concerned protectors (railway officials) are hand in glove with these thieves? Without their support how they can operate? Railway police must know these miscreants as they see them regularly! Why there are no cc camera or why concerned authority is keeping a watch on these thieves for such a long journey?
