Udupi: Congress appoints four members as general secretaries

Udupi, Jul 15: The senior leader Congress, U R Sabhapathy, Gopal Bhandary, M A Gafoor and Veronica Cornelio have been appointed as general secretaries of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress committee.

U R Sabhapathy

The senior leader Congress, U R Sabhapathy, was elected an MLA from the Udupi Assembly constituency in 1994 on the Karnataka Congress party ticket.  He was re-elected from Udupi assembly constituency in 1999 as a Congress candidate. He joined to Janatha Dal (secular) in 2012. Then, he reunited with Congress party.

H Gopal Bhandary

Former MLA of Karkala H Gopal Bhandary is also appointed as general secretary of Karnataka Pradesh Congress committee.  He is an active member in Congress party and a senior leader too.

M A Gafoor

M A Gafoor, is currently serving as the chairman of Karnataka state Minorities Development Corporation. He has also served as KPCC secretary.

He has served in the Udupi District Congress Committee for over three decades. He also served as president of the Udupi Congress for 12 years and was member of Zilla panchayat from three terms. He worked as the secretary of District Youth Congress and National Youth Congress. Currently he is secretary of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee and in-charge of party affairs in Shivamogga district.

Veronica Cornelio

An active social worker and president of the district Mahila Congress wing, Veronica Cornelio, has been appointed as the Karnataka pradesh Congress committee secretary. She has served as one of the first woman presidents of Udupi Taluk Panchyat and has been an elected Taluk Panchayat member for the past two decades from Uppor and Padu Thonse electoral areas. She is currently serving as the president of the district Mahila Congress wing. Recently, she was honoured with the prestigious district level Rajyothsava award. She is involved in social work for the last 20 years.
