Mangaluru, Jul 15: A new classroom of Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat higher primary school at Bikarnakatte was inaugurated by MLA J R Lobo on Friday, July 14. The classroom is the result of the initiative taken by the alumni of the school and Round Table.

Speaking on the occasion, he said, "There is nothing greater to donate, than imparting knowledge. Government schools in the city have not seen any major development as a bigger portion of the fund that comes from the government to zilla panchayat, goes to rural government schools and the government schools in the city are left with nothing much."

Lobo promised to help these schools as much as possible with help from the government. He also advised the kids to study well, achieve their goals in life and also make the best use of the facilities they had. He further distributed shoes among the students.

Mayor Kavitha Sanil who presided over the programme, said that she would work to get the required funds for development for government schools in the city. She also advised the children to be good citizens in future, retain the culture and heritage and also warned them not to get onto any wrong path. Along with corporator Sabitha Misquith, the mayor distributed uniforms to the students.

Jnanesh M P, education officer, congratulated the Old Students Association and the Round Table for the good initiative and also said that if the society would come together, then there can be more developments in the educational field as well as other fields.

Namdev, president, Old Students Association, spoke on the occasion and said, "I studied in the school in the year 1955. Since I had seen the condition of the school, I decided to do something to improve it. I went to many government officials, but they came up with their own excuses. So I decided to do it myself along with the few other alumni of the school. The Round Table further helped me in fulfilling this goal of mine."

Nishanth Shetty, chairman, Area XIII Round Table India; Roystar D’Souza, chairman, Round Table; Sharon Pinto, AVC Area 13, Ladies Circle; D B Mehta, president of CREDAI and principal Rajivi were present.
