Mangaluru: DGP Rupak Kumar Dutta arrives in city, holds prolonged consultations

Mangaluru, Jul 14: State director general of police (DGP), Rupak Kumar Dutta, arrived in the city on Thursday July 13 to personally take stock of the law and order situation in Dakshina Kannada district in the light of some unsavoury incidents which happened here in the recent past. He held prolonged consultations with officials in key positions including city police commissioner.

After his arrival from Bengaluru by an evening flight, the DGP met high level police officers individually and collected information from them about the current state of affairs in the district. Additional director general of police Alok Mohan, immediate past city police commissioner M Chandra Sekhar, former superintendent of police Dr Sharanappa S D, western range inspector general of police Harishekaran, current city police commissioner T R Suresh, superintendent of police Sudheer Kumar Reddy and some others participated in the meeting. The DGP got information about the law and order situation as well as some incidents that have vitiated atmosphere in the district of late.



Sources said that the DGP sought detailed explanations from the officers about incidents that have happened in the district in spite of the fact that prohibitory orders have been in place in the entire district except city commissionerate limits since the last 48 days and there has been police presence in large numbers everywhere. It is said he sought in-depth information about the murder of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh activist Sharath Madiwala, stone pelting incident during his funeral procession, and other chain of incidents connected thereto.

During the visit of the top cop, leaders of organizations like Bus Owners Association, Lorry Owners Association, Democratic Youth Federation of India and some others visited the office of the city police commissioner and requested for steps to ensure that peace settles down in the district. Dutta will personally visit Bantwal taluk, which has witnessed several disturbing incidents, on Friday for see for himself the arrangements made to tackle the situation and to guide the officers suitably.
