Former Indian ambassador to US dies in Goa


Panaji, Jul 11 (IANS): Former Indian ambassador to the US Naresh Chandra, died in the state on Sunday. He was 82.

A regular visitor to Goa, Chandra was admitted with a high fever to Manipal Hospitals, Dona Paula, on Friday evening. Doctors said he developed heart and kidney complications, following which his condition deteriorated. He was declared dead on Sunday night.

Chandra served as cabinet secretary from 1990-92 and was India's ambassador to the US from 1996 to 2001. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2007.
