Beltangady: First ever startup company of DK gets government grant of Rs 50 lac

Daijiworld Media Network - Beltangady (SP)

Beltangady, Jul 6: East Agro Robotics Private Limited has become the first ever startup company from Dakshina Kannada district to get government grant of Rs 50 lac.

The company has been set up by people belonging to agriculturist families, who know first hand the problems faced by farmers. At a time when agriculture is fast losing status as a viable profession, because of shortage of agricultural labourers, information technology can go a long way in reviving its fortunes.

The company received the said grant from minister, Priyank Kharge, which has been given to support the effort of the company in manufacturing a machine that functions like a drone. It helps in spraying insecticide to areca nut trees to ward off rotting disease. A team of former students of SDM Engineering College came together and conceived this plan to help the farmers to handle problems affecting them. Laxmish Rao from Nidle and Avinash Rao, who founded the company, had graduated from SDM engineering college Dharwad in the year 2004. The duo was working for a multinational at Bengaluru since the last 12 years. The two are supported by Chetana, and assistant professor of MIT Manipal, Kamalesh Kumar.

This happens to be the first agriculture and aerospace company to have been registered under DIPP 173 of the central government.

Demonstration of this drone was held in the presence of Dr Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala, Arecanut Research and Development Foundation representatives, Campco president, Satishchandra and president of All India Arecanut Growers Association, Srinivas Achar. All these dignitaries profusely appreciated the efficient operation of the drone, it is learnt. Director of Central Horticulture and Crops Research Institute, Chowdappa, also has verified the functioning of this machine.

The machines are expected to be released to market by April next year. The company plans to set up an industrial complex at Barangaya in Nidle Panchayat, which is located five km away from Dharmasthala.

    Dear All,

Thanks for reading through and giving away your comments.
I am the Founder who recieved this grant. Small correction that it is iSpAgro Robotics
I will share few more thoughts addition to the above info. You can pass on your comments either personally via avinashrao30@gmail.com for detailed discussion.

    1. Mr. Priyank Kharge has surely taken a bold step in assessing more than 50 startup ideas to boil down to 12 for idea2POC. He was personally present till late evening in going through each idea with same enthusiasm. I had never seen in my experience such Elected member. Also the questions that were asked and the directions given were also very practical.

    2. The drone is a micro aerial vehicle that is 1 meter in dia and always connected to ground operator.

    3. We are developing this in a pure commercial entry standpoint and not as a proposal.

    4. This proto is versatile amalgamation of Aerospace, Electronics, Computer science(Algorithms), Mechanical, Avionics etc. Hence thorough testing is important.

    5. We can now spray a stronger in concentration as human is not in direct contact with the Bordo or fungicide.

    6. Core team has more than 10 years experience in product development in Automation field.
    7. We hail from Dakshina kannada and our parents and family members have areca\coco farms. so we are more attached to the problem.

Thank for your comments and your feeedback wil give us one more direction.

Congrrtulations its a very good initiative and well done . PSU banks can play a larger role but they dont they should park at least 100 crores for start up funding but they are happy funidng rickshaw, lorry and anything physical asset and can recover by selling its high time PSU's appoint a start up wing if not they will lose out in the long run .

Spraying insecticides through drones need to be monitored for its side effects on humans and other species rather than blindly making it as a one way solution. People living in such area plus other companies/environmentalists should monitor it.

Else it might result like "endosulfan" tragedy happened over the years in Karnataka & Kerala due to spraying chemicals to cashew trees through helicopters.

Better safe than sorry. Anyways congrats and good luck to the team for their initiative. But, study side effects first.

Rs 15 lakh is your own promised money you are waiting for the last 3 years with a wide open mouth. If you ask Pappu's Eat India company you will get 15 crores but old notes.
