Karkala, Jul 2: Veteran teacher and social worker Kodimar Vittal Tantry passed away on Sunday July 2 following brief illness. He was 85.

Tantry was a popular teacher in Belman. Over his long stint in the teaching profession lasting 35 years, he earned the respect and love of students across generations.

Hailing from Kodimar, he served in various government schools in Karkala, Shirva, Belman and Venur. He was a teacher at St Joseph School, Belman, and also served at government high school and junior college, Belman for many years.

As a social worker, he was the founder of Lions Club, Belman.

    Sad news! RIP Sir! He was a selfless and popular Science and Mathematics teacher, a great philanthropist . Even after retirement he gave free tuition to scores of students in and around Belman. He is a role model. Knew him closely for over three decades. We will dearly miss him. Condolences to his united family members.
