Mangaluru: Girl's viral Facebook post on eve-teaser - Rizwan arrested

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Jun 30: Five days after a girl put up a Facebook post exposing an eve-teaser who stalked her, the women police on Friday June 30 arrested a man.

The arrested has been identified as Rizwan alias Arshad (29), a resident of Jeppu.

On June 25, Rashmi Shetty had on her Facebook post lashed out at a man who was following her and stopping his scooter just ahead of her and wait for her to pass. Rashmi crossed the road, but the man repeated his behaviour nearly four times, besides coming threateningly close to her. It was only after Rashmi took out her phone and snapped a picture of his scooter that he turned and rode away.

In the powerful post, Rashmi described the incident and asserted that she would not be intimidated. "These streets are as much mine as they are of undeserving a******s like you. You or a hundred like you will not scare me into staying home and not being free. This is a message from all the strong girls to you and your likes: if you try curtailing our freedom, we will fight back. And we will knock you down. I was only waiting for you to make a move so I can smack your face with my heels- the same ones you were trying so hard to catch up with. And you think you can do anything under the veil of anonymity? Here, I’m not anonymous anymore. And I won’t let you be either. And let me repeat, I’M NOT SCARED OF YOU. You thought I’d be scared, didn’t you? You thought I’d be ashamed, didn’t you? You’re the one who should be both."

Taking note of the post that went viral on social media, the women police, under the directions of the city police commissioner, filed a suo moto case.

Based on the registration number, the scooter was traced to its owner Rizwan, and he was arrested on Friday.

It is very easy to become brave when my ticket is already booked to bihar or somewhere else and I am sure that I am not gonna visit Mangalore almost for 6 months or for a year. What punishment maximum/minimum I can expect from Indian Law for such Eve Teaser. From past 12 years me and my other colleagues who are also my friends now visiting Jyothi Balmatta Bus Stand everyday and wait for bus for max 30 minutes and face such people. But we never bothered about them. Its not because we are not brave but its very simple that if we complain also in few days/few weeks/few months they will come out from jail and then they will show us what they are in real. Its very easy to comment sitting at home, offices and many safe places and make someone public hero but who is there when the real attack takes place after all this legal issues. They may harm us in any way by kidnapping us, throwing acid and many more. Again one more news will come saying that girl attacked by acid and again sitting in safe places people will comment "Poor Girl" May her soul rest in peace. Isn't it? So please stop now calling someone brave and strong. Brave are those who face such people daily & just ignore them and go. When we know that they are staring at us why we have to look at them. You have many ways to ignore them. There is one famous hotel in Jyothi where their staffs stand outside and give stare like anything and we ignore them and for sometimes when we pass very close to them we just say on their face " Ini Bajana Dekkere Ijjod Mokleg''. Not only they, there are many people who stare at us some are from bikes, some from car, some from bus and some from auto. But seriously we are not at all interested to see their face more than once because we know that their intentions are not good anyways. So a Big Ignore to such people. At the end I am not discouraging anyone but see to that even after all these legal issues you will be in a safe place. Because i don't have any trust on Indian Law. SORRY.

    Pramila,
You are either confused or feeling a bit 'nanji' for the support received by Rashmi Shetty.
The pervert in this case has not just stared at that girl. He was following her, harrassing her every bow and then by blocking her way all along from Bavutagudda to Jyothi.

Girls, take 'staring' sportively. Stare back boldly if you wish.
But do fight back if you are being teased. Do not get let down or scared by the words of Ms. Pramila Fernandes.

If you read my comment till end then you might have noticed that i have mentioned that I am not discouraging anyone and also I have mentioned that to be safe because Mr.Shanker you are not a Super Man to be there with every girl everywhere. Hope you understand what I mean. Secondly about ''nanji" because she got public support let me tell you one thing very clearly that I have my own identity and those who know me they know me very well. And finally you are free to think the way you want. I am happy with that too. God Bless You.

So you mean to say just cos they did not do anything in one incident they shouldn't be doing anything in the other as well? What kind of justification is that exactly? We will only have rapists and molestors roaming all around if people started justifying their actions like this. Let's appreciate this move by the cops. Mangalore is becoming worse thse days esp when it comes to even teasing and stuff. If these are not caught then they will only be doing more harm. I urge Daijiworld to put up a pic of Rizwan so that such public shaming will not just do justice but also give us an idea about the kind of people living amongst us.

This is what is called double standards. Those who obey your protector men and stay inside the houses or clothe yourself head-to-toe, please demand explanation to this. Are you to be intimidated by your own men over consequences of disobeying the diktat but the very men do exactly what is dreaded to be happening to you, is this an acceptable behaviour in the society ?
