Udupi, Jun 29: Speaking to Daijiworld, Fr William Martis hailed Paryaya Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math here for his initiative in organizing Iftar party in the Math premises for Muslims. He also said that the Swamiji had, at the same time cleared the air over Babri Masjid demolition.

Following the Iftar party hosted in Srikrishna Math premises in the presence of Pejawar Swamiji on Saturday, similar party had also been conducted at Mother of Sorrows Church here. Priests from three religions had taken part in this programme.

Speaking to Daijiworld about the controversy over Iftar party organized at Srikrishna Math premises, Fr William Martis noted that Iftar parties are being held regularly since the last 30 years and there is nothing new about it.

"Although Christians have been organizing harmony programmes since long, this is new as far as Hindus are concerned. After the demolition of Babri Masjid, such harmony meets are being held through public meetings. In the recent past, an ill feeling that Hindus, Christians and Muslims are different is being implanted in the minds of small children. In this background, Pejawar Swamiji is right in organizing this programme on the face of it,” Fr Martis said.

“Till now, Christians and Muslims alone used to host such friendly unions. However, before Pejawar Swamiji came out with his explanation about the programme, doubts had been there about the programme. Because, there had been a feeling that Swamiji and such other leaders who had taken part in preparatory meetings before Babri Masjid was demolished, had to bring together people from different religions and give a message by interacting with them that all are one and they stand united. He has now done this,” Fr Martis added.

“We wish that the Swamiji will continue with similar initiatives. The work of erasing a sense of enmity and alienation that is getting deep-rooted in the minds of people should be continued to be undertaken. I congratulate the Swamiji," he stated.

At the same time, he observed that whenever such parties are held by Christians, most of the participants are from Christian community, and similarly in parties held by Muslims, most of those present are from Islam. "This is a matter of concern. At the same time, all efforts to strike harmony should be continued without fail," he stressed.

With due respect to all religious heads, I think religious heads should mind their way that's prayer to God and let people decide freely how to mingle with others in society. If some one wants to visit others place of worship let them do it.

Of late, there is way too much hatred between Muslims and Hindus in DK. It is instigated by some News papers and Hindu militant groups. The public just believes the stories they see in print every morning without realizing the intention of the people who have edited / composed them. I appreciate Pejavar Swamijis initiative in this regard. His resolve gives a strong message to the public to forget their hatred and be the peace loving people they were.

Due respect to this Fr William Martis, I don't agree with his sentence "Although Christians have been organizing harmony programmes since long, this is new as far as Hindus are concerned" and "Although Christians have been organizing harmony programmes since long, this is new as far as Hindus are concerned".

I am happy that you are happy about this movement, but it is not at all new, I have seen many Hindus organizing Iftiyars and christmas parties. And Sri Pejawar Swamiji contributed lot to public irrespective of religion/ caste.

Moreover Hindus contribute/ respect more to your beliefs where they attend Church functions and Dargahs openly and nobody objects it. Whereas I have seen many Christians/ Muslims attend our temples, Daivastanas and astrologers get all remedies (which really good), yet they scared and they say that they can't attend these openly/ liberally because they will get scolding from father or Church head or maulas if they get to know about this.

Then what is the use YOU orgainizing/ showcasing such publicity events where you proclaim that you are liberal, don't enforce, secular, democratic etc when people are controlled by you.

Well said Fr. William. There should be Give and Take in an harmonious society. This should begin with the sharing of food. Hope all right minded people will take it in right spirit.

Every other religion should call each other religion in their Mosque/church/Temple premises and serve meal in their place.. This should stop attacking each others religion/temples or other worshiping places... This kind of unique festival should be held every 6 months or yearly once.

Rahul, this is typical rss propaganda, the only two mosques in world where non-Muslims are restricted are Makkah and Madeena. Anyone can enter any mosque in world with a good intention. But, it is only in Hindus where temples are restricted to only for some so called HIGH castes! If certain people enter some sacred areas of temples they are considered as an insult to the God! Strange isn't it? Are you allowed as a male devotee to touch your gods idol? Please do not write your false propaganda here, put your house right before pointing towards others. Fight for your religious rights before your sympathy towards Muslim women!!!

First of all people like Muthailik, Yeddi and VHP high priest change their mentality and attitude towards the minorities. such aspirations is welcome but some hardcore communal phisophers will never change and will never allow peace & harmony to prevail in the community

we want to see iftar/Christmas in temple, we want to see deepavali/iftar in churches, we want to see deepavali/Christmas in musjid. If it happens in these 3 places then we can talk about harmony. Otherwise it is one sided act & no use.

It is not just the churches, temples or mosques that should come with such initiative, but we as citizens should conduct it in our own way. During Christmas we as ward members go to each and every house in our ward be it a hindu house or a muslim house or catholic house and celebrate it every year. So this initiative should come within us.

Shankar, who changed it? May be Advani to start with to get power and Snghis, BDs where not known, SRS, HJV culminated ... money and power through moral policing and division among common people who were living a harmonious friendly life among neighborhood and society!
Hope Pejawar Swamiji's efforts and noble deeds will shed brighter light and people like Mutlik, yeddy, chaddy, SRS, PFI, HJV etc...will have no takers in order to create a peaceful society!
Wonder what these SRS types are going to create by attempting to divide people on religion lines!
