Ballari: Let them eat beef at home and die - Yeddyurappa

Ballari, Jun 28 (DHNS): Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa said on Tuesday, “Let them consume beef at home and die,” in reference to those who ate beef at a public function in Mysuru on Sunday.

He termed those who eat beef in public as mad people. The former chief minister was addressing a press conference in the city.

“We have no objection if people eat beef at home,” Yeddyurappa said. He demanded punishment for and boycott of people who consumed beef on the Kalamandira premises in Mysuru.

“People will not accept such an act. Even God will not approve of it,” he said, adding that 99% of the people were opposed to consumption of beef in public.

Yeddyurappa said MLAs representing BSR Congress and independents would vote for NDA’s presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind.

The former chief minister had breakfast at the house of Dalit woman, Sunkalamma, at Bapuji Nagar and distributed a stove and LPG cylinder to her.

Lok Sabha member Shobha Karandlaje, who accompanied Yeddyurappa, said it was not right on the part of Pejawar seer Vishwesha Theertha Swami to host an iftar party at the Krishna Mutt in Udupi.

The violence perpetrated by Hindu organisations in the name of cow protection impelled Father of Nation Mahatama Gandhi to shun the term in his later years. He consciously chose terms like ‘goseva’ (in service of the cow) or ‘pashu-sudhaar’ (improvement of livestock).
India probably has the world’s worst malnutrition problem. Rather than solve it, India’s politicians are making it worse by denying the country cheap protein.Between banned beef and expensive dal, how are poor Indians supposed to get enough protein?
When Lal Bahadur Shastri took over as a Prime Minister in 1964, India used to be a food importing country then. It depended on food imports from North America under the PL-480 scheme. In 1965, when we were at war with Pakistan, India faced drought as well. Keeping in mind, the food situation and the prevailing hunger, Shastri had urged the entire country to hold a fast for a day. Lal Bahadur Shastri knew and understood the significance of soldiers and farmers and gave slogan during that period - Jai Jawan Jai Kisan.
As 70% of the Indian river drying farmers who are feeding us are now giving up agriculture. If loan waiver can solve all the problem then India is not far away from importing grains to feed its billion population.
The secular umbrella of the constitution includes, “health, culture, personal food habits, the socio-economic status of the society, the availability of foodstuff at affordable prices, the convenience of availability, the contents, quality and strength of foodstuff essential to life.
There should not be compulsion by court to ban on political basis. If ancient Hindu scriptures beef eating is allowed why the verdict should not be based on it?Present President Mukherjee should shoulder the current crisis who's blind signatures on cow protecting bill has emboldened the country into mobocracy.
Choice of Food is Part of Citizen’s Right to Life.

Yeddi should first visit a local fish market and check the prices, after which I am sure he will say, people who cannot afford to buy food should die. A Kg of small sized pomfrets is over Rs 800. A Kg of King fish is over 700 Rs. Even sardines and mackrels cost over 300-400 Rs. The prices of vegetables and pulses has skyrocketed since the BJP came to power at the centre. Beef is the only affordable thing that a common man can eat now and these people want to take even that away. They were against FDI in retail and everyone knows why. Majority of the BJP leaders and their top rung officials are middle men who would lose if FDI in retail is implemented. Even though the farmer is dying, these scavengers always have their belly full. A farmer get a pittance for his crops like onions and potatoes, whereas the retail prices skyrocket and even onions and potatoes are out of reach of a common man. Now you know into whose pockets all this money is going and why they are against beef and also FDI in retail.

Why Mr. Yeddy? why should people die after consuming beef at home? Is beef poisonous? Is beef rotten? Beef is one of nutritious food of most people in the world. Those who refrain from consuming it can do it on their own accord. But, imposing your ideology on others may have serious consequences.
Choice of food is one's own choice. Does anyone restrict those who consume Cow Urine?? NO. It's nobody's business.
But, if you dare stop / ban BEEF EXPORT first. India EXPORTED 1,850,000 tons of BEEF that is 19.60% of world's total BEEF EXPORTS.

Muslims, it forbidden to have Liquor, So, shouldn't it be served other than at home?

There are legal slaughter houses in the state. There are beef serving restaurants in the state. Aren't they sell in public?

I had a party in a hall, I ordered many dishes and even ordered beef dishes from a Restaurant, That restaurant got supply of beef from a legal meat shop. That legal meat shop procured beef from a legal slaughter house in the city.

So far as the evidence from the Rig Veda is concerned the conclusion is based on a misreading and misunderstanding of the texts. The adjective Aghnya applied to the cow in the Rig Veda means a cow that was yielding milk and therefore not fit for being killed. That the cow is venerated in the Rig Veda is of course true. But this regard and veneration of the cow are only to be expected from an agricultural community like the Indo-Aryans. This application of the utility of the cow did not prevent the Aryan from killing the cow for purposes of food. Indeed, the cow was killed because the cow was regarded as sacred. As observed by Mr. Kane: "It was not that the cow was not sacred in Vedic times, it was because of her sacredness that it is ordained in the Vajasaneyi Samhita that beef should be eaten." (Dharma Shastra Vichar in Marathi, p. 180).
That the Aryans of the Rig Veda did kill cows for purposes of food and ate beef is abundantly clear from the Rig Veda itself. In Rig Veda (X. 86.14) Indra says: ‘They cook for one 15 plus twenty oxen". The Rig Veda (X.91.14) says that for Agni were sacrificed horses, bulls, oxen, barren cows and rams. From the Rig Veda (X.72.6) it appears that the cow was killed with a sword or axe.
For there are passages in the other Bramhanas which give a different opinion. To give only one instance. Among the Kamyashtis set forth in the Taittiriya Bramhana, not only the sacrifice of oxen and cows is laid down, but we are even told what kind and description of oxen and cows are to be offered to what deities. Thus, a dwarf ox is to be chosen for sacrifice to Vishnu; a drooping horned bull with a blaze on the forehead to Indra as the destroyer of Vritra, a black cow to Pushan, a red cow to Rudra, and so on. The Taittiriya Bramhana notes another sacrifice called Panchasaradiya-seva, the most important element of which was the immolation of seventeen five-year old humpless, dwraf bulls, and as many dwarf heifers under three year old.
    ...to be contd

At 15, 14, 29, the Sutra says: "The cow and the bull are sacred and therefore should be eaten". The second is the prescription of Madhuparka contained in the Grahya Sutras.

That the Hindus at one time did kill cows and did eat beef is proved abundantly by the description of the Yajnas given in the Buddhist Sutras which relate to periods much later than the Vedas and the Brahmanas. The scale on which the slaughter of cows and animals took place was colossal.

Manusmriti (Chapter 5 / Verse 30) says, “It is not sinful to eat meat of eatable animals, for Brahma has created both the eaters and the eatables.”

Manusmriti (5 / 35) states: When a man who is properly engaged in a ritual does not eat meat, after his death he will become a sacrificial animal during twenty-one rebirths.

Maharishi Yagyavalkya says in Shatpath Brahmin (3/1/2/21) that, “I eat beef because it is very soft and delicious.”
Apastamb Grihsutram (1/3/10) says, “The cow should be slaughtered on the arrival of a guest, on the occasion of ‘Shraddha’ of ancestors and on the occasion of a marriage.”
Rigveda (10/85/13) declares, “On the occasion of a girl’s marriage oxen and cows are slaughtered.”
Rigveda (6/17/1) states that “Indra used to eat the meat of cow, calf, horse and buffalo.”
Vashistha Dharmasutra (11/34) writes, “If a Brahmin refuses to eat the meat offered to him on the occasion of ‘Shraddha’ or worship, he goes to hell.”
