Mangaluru, Jun 27: Residents of Paduperara in Bajpe panchayat limits on Tuesday June 27 staged a unique protest against the local panchayat and officials for neglecting their demands to repair the roads in the area.

The residents, in order to drive home their point, planted saplings on the potholes on the roads.

The residents are distressed over the condition of roads in their locality from the past three years. The roads are filled with crater-like potholes.

Irked with elected representatives' apathy and failure to respond to their frequent complaints and fed up with the panchayat ignoring their demands, residents turned out in big numbers for the unique protest, wherein they planted saplings in the potholes and demanded repair of the roads at the earliest. They raised slogans against the officials and demanded justice.

During monsoons, the roads in this area turn bad to worse, posing danger as motorists cannot anticipate the depth of the crater-like potholes on the road. Even other commuters, pedestrians and children find difficult it to take this route to reach their destinations. The protestors said that in spite of bring the matter to the attention of the authorities concerned time and again, their pleas had been ignored.
