Bantwal: Auto driver drowns in pond when fitting pump

Bantwal, Jun 25: An auto rickshaw driver who was trying to fit a pump set in a pond for his plantation slipped and drowned in the pond on Saturday June 24.

The victim has been identified as Vaman Naik (53), resident of Patikallu in Punacha village near Vittal in the taluk. The pump set at the plantation had developed problems. Late evening on Friday, he had left for his plantation, telling his family members that he would come back after getting the pump repaired and installed again.

On Saturday morning, family members noticed that Naik had no returned. They went in search for him and found his body floating in the pond. On the basis of a complaint made by the son of the deceased, a case was registered at Vittal police station. Investigation has been set into motion.
