Kasargod, Jun 24: Foundation stone was laid for the new building of Snehalaya psycho-social rehabilitation asylum for women and old age home for women at Manjeshwar here on Friday June 23.
Fr Valerian Frank, vicar forane of Kasargod deanery and priest of Mother of Sorrows Church, Bela, founder of Talent Research Foundation, Abdul Rauf Puthige, and Dr Udayakumar of Satya Sai Foundation, Pavoor, laid foundation stone for the rehabilitation centre.
Fr Franklin D'Souza blessed the foundation stone for the asylum building and the old age home and also conducted the prayer service, besides inaugurating the formal programme.
Fr Andrew, Leo D'Souza, priest of Vorkady church, Fr Francis Rodrigues, Fr Maxim D'Souza of Jeppu seminary, Sr Agatha Mary, president of Manjeshwar block panchayat, A K M Ashraf, former president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Roy Castelino, Hilda of Mother Theresa Trust, Bro T K George, member of Manjeshwar block panchayat, Moosa, priest of Hosangady Infant Jesus Church, Fr Mabi and others were present on the occasion.
Two projects - a biogas plant sponsored by KCWA, Kuwait and a generator sponsored by James Victor D’Mello, Mangaluru were inaugurated on the occasion.
On this occasion, Joseph Crasta felicitated teachers of the centre, Girish and Hanumanth.
Earlier, the programme began with a prayer by Snehalaya team.
Joseph Crasta, founder of Snehalaya, welcomed the gathering and explained about the Italian Episcopal Conference (IEC) Project.
Joseph Crasta has come forward to adopt 'Arunodaya special centre for mentally challenged children' at Karkala. On this occasion, the centre was handed over to Crasta. The centre has 35 children. Sr Donalda, who was running the centre, has been finding it impossible to continue to operate it because of age-related issues. Therefore, Joseph volunteered to take it over.
Snehalaya team thanked the Italian Episcopal Conference for financing the new project of psycho-social rehabilitation asylum for women. Vote of thanks was rendered by Jacintha Pereira while Rafiq Master of Talent Research Foundation compered.
