Mangaluru, Jun 22: Manjeshwar and Ullal police, in a three-hour long joint operation, rescued a man who was kidnapped for a ransom of Rs five lac.
The accused had abducted Tahiz, a resident of Trikaripur, Padanna in Kerala and also attempted to kidnap Ashraf, his companion, who had just arrived from abroad.
On Wednesday June 21, Tahiz was taking his relative Ashraf, who had landed at the airport here, to his house in Kerala in his Honda City car. On the way, the car hit a bike on NH 66 at Uchila. Those on the bike got into an argument following the accident and demanded complete reimbursement of of the cost of bike repairs. Ashraf agreed to it, but then the bike riders asked them to go a little further with them. Another three men joined the bike riders, and together they got hold of Tahiz and Ashraf and tried to push them into the car, while one of the accused came forward to start the car and drive.
Tahiz and Ashraf managed to escape from them but two of the men followed Tahiz. Tahiz ran inside Ajjinadka mosque and raised an alarm for help. But as no one came to his help, the accused forced Tahiz inside the car and drove away.
Meanwhile, Ashraf who escaped from the abductors informed the Ullal police. The police who arrived at the spot located the car with the help of GPS.
The kidnappers meanwhile called up Ashraf and demanded a ransom of Rs five lac for the release of Tahiz. Ashraf agreed to it in the presence of the police. The kidnappers asked Ashraf to come near Kadambar mosque. But when he reached there along with the police, the kidnappers again asked him to meet them at a different location.
Meanwhile, the cops, with the help of Manjeshwar police, traced the car and waylaid it at Kunjathur in a cinematic style. The kidnappers fled on seeing the police. Tahiz was rescued and brought to Ullal police station.
The accused are said to be from Ajjinadka. Police are on the lookout for them.
