Bengaluru: Siren-blaring ambulance driver held for jumping traffic signals with no patient!

Bengaluru, Jun 22: Ambulance drivers can normally be excused for jumping a traffic signal even though it is a traffic violation, while driving the vehicle with siren blaring.

Generally, siren blaring ambulances are given some leeway as everybody assumes that the ambulance may be carrying a patient in critical condition and delay of a few minutes might mean a matter of life and death for the patient.

But not so in this case. The Halasuru police caught the 25-year-old ambulance driver Kantharaj for jumping the traffic signal at Devanga junction in the city on Thursday afternoon. He was driving with siren blaring without any patient inside.

When the police subjected him to breath-analyser test, the ambulance driver was found to have blood alcohol level of 29 mg, which is way above the legal limit.

Was the ambulance driver, Kantharaj, in a tearing hurry to go the nearest bar to down a few more drinks or perhaps go home to sleep off and rest, one wonders.

The Halasuru police have booked a case under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act against Kantharaj.

Kantharaj had switched on the siren of the Sanjeevani ambulance even though the vehicle was carrying no patient. He also jumped the signal at Devanga Junction.

If the driver is 30 years or less, I wouldn't want to be in the vehicle.

It may be a difficult matter to reject an ambulance when emergency treatment is needed, but the ambulance driven by a young driver is more dangerous that the medical emergency itself.

This driver jumped the traffic signal with the siren blaring - and thus prevented some accidents.

Other under-30 ambulance drivers are likely to jump the traffic signal WITHOUT the siren blaring, and then blame then everyone will blame the various vehicles involved in the aciident for going out of control.

    My kind suggestion to people:
Do not get into a vehicle driven by someone under 30 years of age - unless you are looking for a super-action ending of this world's journey.

    Dear Mangalorean,

Assume one of your nearest and dearest one needs to be rushed to a hospital, will you still follow your ideology if the ambulance driver is below 30 yrs of age ?

@Mangalorean mangalore,Do you have a other choice suppose you yourself are not in a stage ,or your dearone at a serious condition ,and cant decide?Dont specify all .There are many do their duty loyally, and serious. Some othrs think ,they are the chosen ones and can do any stupid things with the sirene and slip away.Such people should be simply suspended from duty. They are not to trust with patients .

Ambulance drivers take the cover of law and drive vehicle rashly, never bother to dim their headlights (usually 4 to 6).
They think they are above law. Govt should take steps to educate & control these irrant drivers
