Udupi: Siddaramaiah's stubbornness against visiting Sri Krishna Math harming Congress?

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jun 19: Some people analyze that chief minister, Siddaramaiah's aversion to visit Sri Krishna Math and his decision not to visit the Math during President's visit has spurned a golden opportunity that had been offered on a platter to Congress party.

It may be recalled that Siddaramaiah, who has been identified with 'Ahinda (minorities, backward classes and dalits)' movement, had locked horns with the Math here relating to Kanaka Gopura dispute. An effort had earlier been made by the Congress government to take over administration of the Math but the Math had succeeded in thwarting this attempt. As soon Siddaramaiah became the chief minister, pressure had been brought on him by certain sections to take over Sri Krishna Math. It is said that the chief minister is wary of facing opposition from certain classes of people and their organizations who have been supporting his anti-Sri Krishna Math stance all these days.

Some analysts feel that Pranab's visit had provided Siddaramaiah with a golden opportunity to clear himself from the notion that he has been maintaining a discreet distance from higher castes. There is information that various ministers had requested the chief minister to use this opportunity and thaw the relationship with this class. Some also attribute this decision of Siddaramaiah to egotism.

As expected, Siddaramaiah restricted himself to seeing the President off at HAL airport. Many believe that even if he had visited Sri Krishna Math with the President, it would have been treated as a matter of protocol for the chief minister and not slide from earlier stand. His visit would have brought rich dividends to his party in this district in particular by way of earning goodwill of devotees of the Math and people from higher castes. This would have come as blessing in disguise for the party which is on the threshold of facing assembly election next year.

In the past, Siddaramaiah had tried to rush through a bill to ban superstitions but he had faced stiff opposition from senior ministers and therefore withheld it. After complaints emerged that policies of the government were keeping certain classes of the society away, under advice from the high command of the party, it is said, the chief minister agreed to give prominent positions to leaders from higher castes like KPCC working president, Dinesh Gundu Rao, and ministers, S R Patil and D K Shivakumar.

One must congratulate Siddharamaiah for not mixing politics with religion. He does not need Brahmin votes to win the elections. Besides not all Brahmins think what is taking place in the mutts as right. Hindus do vote on caste and with caste equations Siddhu will win. After the kind of politics BJP has exhibited decent Brahmins will not vote for the party. Major section of the Bunts and Billavas are with the Congress now. Muslims and SCs/STs/Kurubas and a section of the Lingayats will surely vote for the Congress. Siddhu should carry on his mission of empowering the powerless.

Siddu claims he is an atheist, so no problem if he does not go to temple. But last week he was seen in Bengaluru Shivaji Nagar of Roza opening wearing skull cap, why double standards? It is appeasement of minorities which will harm the Congress

Thousands are getting benefits everyday from Matt by way of Day Meals ( at temple premises, School,Hospitals), Education, and Medical Aid.
Krishna Temple is the Center Point of Udupi's development and must visit tourist destination for any one who travels to coastal Karnataka. And very importantly it is a Shakthi Kendra which Keeps All religion united in the district. Our CM's attitude towards such place will really hurts the people of district.

Feel its perfectly ok. Why all this show off when half of them have internal external fights. They can visit a nearby temple and pray together. Proves that CM believes in hard work and not doing something for the purpose of earning votes.

This looks like a calculated move. Just because he visits the Math doesn't mean he will suddenly gain support from people in the region. On the other hand, by visiting the math, he might risk irritating his supporters.

That is one way of looking at things..., but there is an other possibility also..., who talk about a section of self proclaimed righteous/elite/revered/upper class of society who see our honorable CM with a demeaning mindset...,

If one take note of & realize such intangibles it is not prudent for a right thinking supreme representative/leader of Kannadiga's to hurt their pride.

jlong live Sidduji..., Kanaka gave darshan to to the oppressed not the elites..., Lord Krishna with you.., he is not just in Udupi..., he is every where - Omnipresent..., jai Ho...,

After all secular thinking Hindus are not fools...,

    Religion is a personal matter.

The Chief Minister understands this fact very well.

Not only that, he has consistently kept politics away from religion.

If all the politicians follow this example, India will be as progressive as many other advanced countries.

But some are trying to tarnish his image for keeping politics and religion separate.
