Mangaluru: 'Are you a dictator?' - Poojary asks CM on proposal to control private hospitals

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Jun 17: Senior Congress leader B Janardhan Poojary on Saturday June 17 lambasted chief minister Siddaramaiah over the proposed law by the state government to control costs in private hospitals and clinics which resulted in the shutdown of hospitals and clinics in the state in protest on Friday June 16.

Addressing media here on Saturday June 17, Poojary said, "The private hospitals and clinics observed bandh in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi after chief minister Siddaramaiah proposed the law to control the private hospitals and clinics. Patients ran helter-skelter as doctors remained unavailable due to the bandh.

"Before proposing the law have you (Siddaramaiah) approached the Karnataka Pradesh Congress executive committee or mention about the proposed law in the party manifesto during the last elections? Did you take permission from the high command? Who gave you the right? Are you a dictator?" he questioned the chief minister.

He further told Siddaramaiah, "Are you aware about the condition of the patients and impact of the bandh? Have you gone out of your mind? You need to have some concern towards the poor people and think before you propose a law. Have you visited hospitals in Manipal which have changed drastically compared to earlier days? Instead of proposing this law it is better to develop government hospitals which are in pathetic condition."

Warning that Siddaramaiah's 'attitude' would bring Congress party's downfall, Poojary said, "Siddaramaiah has a lot of attitude and he does not even take suggestions before proposing laws. There has to be some limit in your (Siddaramaiah's) decisions. Do not bring downfall to the Congress party which you never built. It is better for you to leave the party. Party representatives have worked hard to build the party. Instead of taking the state a step forward, you are taking it backward."

Karunakar, Kallige Tharnath Shetty, Vijay Kumar Shetty and others were present.

Its wise, good and noble step taken by our highly respectable Chief Minister. Some MLAs wants speak against as well on good. Its their behavior from the beginning and we cannot change them at their this stage. Mangalore is the biggest Mafia in case of medical industry. Just for example, if a person died since a week, the hospital keeps them as alive till their bill reaches till budgeted amount! Such is the situation in Mangalore hospitals. But I am not blaming all, there are still few good hospitals and doctors as well. Respected CM, please go ahead and put even more restrictions on hospital management for the sake poor and needy. May the Almighty bless and reward you.

What about the service quality ? Just fixing the fee structure seems to be stunt.
Government need to address the issue at the bud. Do not treat medical profession as a business. Stop capitation/higher fees, reservation/quotas. Only honour the meritorious student. Provide subsidized medical education. Encourage meritorious students from economically backward class by providing free education/scholarship. Encourage generic drug. All this will bring down the cost and hence the fee structure

@Rita,Germany ,if right wrong has to be decided tn ,it would be better ur siddu does it in correct way by building government hospitals and bringing in good doctors, giving them better salaries and services,so that they don't have to do private practice, bringing in good facilities in present government hospitals than eyeing on private hospitals isn't it,WHY publicity stunt when state elections are near wn this proposal would have been implemented from starting after the goverment was formed....WHY IS IT????

Has the private hospitals stopped giving haftas to the government or was the CM in sleeping mode and suddenly realized that elections are coming near...and y I hv mentioned about charity is the reply given to those people who forgot about loan mela, which was introduced by Poojary, which poor people benefited by that mela....which richer people always criticized about it,isn't it...sitting in Germany and talking is easy, even I am a follower of congress and I have given certain warning to some of my congress follower start working now itself not wn the elections are nearing but they didn'tabide it,I have heard some of congress followers saying that in south canara this time its difficult to gain mla seats as before......

you seem to be very aggressively defending the private hospitals...................Just go around meet people and get feedback and you will know exactly what people feel. It is time to rein in these hospitals and stop malpractices. The present setup is simply corrupt. At least 9 out of 10. They either suck the poor patients or the insurance companies. New doctors joining are given monthly targets to achieve, not in terms of patients cured, but amount of money to be collected. What Siddu is trying to do, should be appreciated and encouraged. It is in the interests of all. I agree that you are in business and that you should make some money, but this is not about making decent profits. It is simply greed and avarice. There is no limit to what extent some of these hospitals are going.

Two noble professions education and health care are no longer noble. Greedy people have destroyed these. The people who own and run these educational institutions and private hospitals are in there only to suck money from helpless people and neither care for education nor health of the people. Unnecessary tests and surgical procedures and tuition fees are pushed down the throats of the helpless. Whenever the government intervenes to bring these rogue elements under control they cry hoarse and say that they are making losses, when in reality they drive around in luxury cars and live in palatial houses. How can loss making businessmen afford such lavish lifestyle? I think we should support Siddu here. What he is planning to do is simply fantastic.

These days Hospitals have become Money making units with no sense of moral values. Doctors now a days have only one aim in life. Thats make cash. Human emtions and empathy are missing among Doctors. Medicine has become an industry and is market driven. Uneceesary tests Unwated surgeries are now a days common. We need to curb this. And for this a law should be made. Doctors charges must be fixed. Its a very good move from the state goverment that such things are happenings. We must bring in rules to curb increasing medical costs/ I prersonally support this move from Sidhu.

Medical charges at Kundapura Udupi and Mangalore are on the rise now. Hospitals charge like anything. There are no checks. Unless we act here our medical expenes with rise and common people will suffer. All good doctors leave to UK or USA , Only the rest stay in India and their only aim is to make cash. This is a very sad trend. I am sure there is a need of a law to curb this, Sri Pookary sir dont criticize SIdhu sir like this.

Sidhu sir is a simple man and is doing a very good job, I feel because of SIdhu Congress will come to stay in power in Karnataka for ever. Lets encourage Sidhu sir in his all reforms. I feel this kind of an act is very much needed in this era where Medical education and medical practice have become a business. Doctors are the most noblest of profession and they need to keep those noble values up When they themselves fail to do it the goverment needs to tell them what to do.

Sri Poojay sir must understand that govt health care in India is too bad and thats why people depend on private health care. Poojary sir must understand all these before commenting on anything. Poojary sir as I know was a noble man and always fought for the poor people in the form of loan mela etc. He always suppoted the poor Now why does he talking against this rule which will help the poor in getting good treatment. Poor people must be taken care of in any kind of society and we must always support

People in favour of state control of private hospitals do understand economics. Private hospitals are able to charge high fees for services because they have little competition. Government hospitals are in deplorable condition and need to be improved. Instead of proposal to control private hospitals the government should make it easier to build more private hospitals.

What is your agenda behind targeting him. 3) There are many failures in the current central government, why don't you also get these issues in the press conference. 4) when UPA was ruling there were many scams. However you never opened your mouth back then. I'm sure you always had a greed for the MP ticket, which you have wasted by losing the elections. 5) People say you are a straight forward person but I see a double standard in you as you are aware you won't be getting the next MP ticket for 2019. First Govt. and MCI work on clarity without taking bribe and commissions from hospital for giving authority of each and every thing. why the govt or court increase fees for PG and MBBS or undergraduate increase every year to 10 lack or 30 lack or 60 lacks - is it a normal fees of 2 lack like another course cant make it. you need the bright candiate for medicine and he have to pay heavy fees and 10 years they have to study with different examinations. why Medical college reduce the fees to them after NEET and how many college ciled case in high court and supreme court for fees increase. make utlise of their aim to serve the community like you and I do a free service. is a municipal engineer do his work free of service and claim his bribe from the customer. you and ,me not bothered for it - why only you and govt. need to talk about doctors take fees for their job or they have to do free service for you. if any electrician come to your home you have to pay full money they asl and you have no compalin for it/ you and me have only paying to doctor and their service is to reduce the fees. you tell gov t. to arrange their free study and accommodations etc and then you give bad words against doctors. we indians do not see any justification for the ill treatment

Karnataka Government permitted private medical colleges to charge up to Rs. 90 Lakhs per year as fee for MD/MS courses during current year where as neighboring states has regulated it to Rs. 14 Lakhs. Fee regulation committee mandated by Supreme Court is consciously made defunct in Karnataka. Plum clinical seats were retained by managements and the counseling authority [KEA] returned all unfilled seats in a hurry without conducting third round to facilitate sale in open market. Surprisingly, NRI seats were sold under NRI Sponsor Category violating the direction from Supreme Court. Taking in to account all these violations, High Court vide judgment dated 15.6.2017 has cancelled selection to 1069 MD/MS seats under NRI/Mgmt Quota and has directed any aggrieved party to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Government authorities concerned. With a series of violations and illegalities which speaks for itself, present Government is in docks and is answerable to common man. MD/MS admission of current year under NRI/Management quota undertaken by KEA without options is a big scandal with kickbacks running in to hundreds of crores. If the Government were serious in providing affordable healthcare to common man, they should have regulated fee structure on medical education as a good beginning. Most of private medical colleges are run by politicians and illegal PG admission is a big source of black money. Why government is facilitating private medical colleges to charge up to Rs. 2.70 Crores for a PG seat with lot of crocodile tears for common man whereas same seat is offered for Rs. 60,000/- in government colleges is getting clear here. Regulating cost of medical education should be the first step towards cleaning healthcare delivery system and taming private practitioners without addressing evils on root leaves many questions to be answered..! Government was a respondent in more than 18 writ petitions filed in this regard during current year speaks volumes!

Just shut your mouth. You are too old to understand. Every Government has a social responsibility. In a democracy hospitals cannot loot and exploit helpless patients. State should look after the well being of citizens and help the citizens against exploitation from private and corporate hospitals. Hospitals are human care and not for profiteering. You do not seem to know the basics of a welfare state though you were former Congresswala. Its time for you to go with your old friend S M Krishna. Congress will then thrive in Dakshina Kannada

One more time waste from the loser. Poojari, you better go for urulu seve instead of criticizing our most efficient and one of the best CMs of India. Remember, even BJP will not accommodate you now. Mr. Siddaramaiah's proposal to control private hospitals is one of the most wisest idea. Private hospitals loot the poor mercilessly. Unnecessary tests, x-rays, surgeries - only to squeeze the poor people to the maximum. Mr. Poojary, look at your age and take retirement from politics is the best way to retain at least remaining respect for you. Do not ever try to talk against our CM. Jai Hind. Jai Karnataka.

Government should work on improving quality/infrastructure/service/treatment of Government hospitals rather then trying to control private sector.
Once Government hospitals start competing with private sector, who will want treatment from private hospitals?
Go and check the facilities of government hospitals of other developed nations. We want always to be on developing nations list. Do not want to get "DEVELOPED NATIONS" tag?

    Abdul Rafiq nd J.F.D'Souza
Poojary's contribution is much more to people of India than ur nidreramaya, how many charities does ur nidreramaiah pay from his salary as Poojary....Poojary salary gets cut for 5 charities 2HINDUS CHARITY ,2 CHRISTIAN CHARITY,1MUSLIM CHARITY,Poojary pays to those charities from his hard earned money, not from corruption money as some of the ministers do remember it....he has never looted tax payers money has some of the minsters do,nor has he taken money from the people whom he has helped, can u guaranty that ur so called following ministers have that kind of clean chit....

@lavanya mangalore, when Poojary contributes to charity purpose is his bier.He is not bound to it,and noone forces it..But here is quite different.CM.Siddu has right. He has the authority to control and propose.Private hospitals are minting money fro patients.Otherside Poojary has right in saying to improve the facilities in Govt hospitals so that patients go to govt.hospitals to reduce the costs. But many govt.hospitals doesnt take interest todo it.Thats the open truth. It is in their hand to do something for the poor. But who wants to take the trouble ,whereas in private they can do as they want.Important is what private hospitals did was wrong to close and make the patients suffer. It is in their ethic (doctors) not to close hospitals and make them suffer.Have to arrange a emergency team,Have they done it?Because of propsed a law to control ,they closed and no doctor was available .Is it good? Poojary is thinking of political party, not patients. How he can wash up CM that way every time?Pay respect and recieve it same way.
