As Ashmita had expressed her desire to donate her organs after her death, her parents informed about it to the doctors. However only her eyes could be donated. Her last rites were held on Saturday evening.

Ashmita’s uncle Shivaram speaking to daijiworld said that her parents are not in a position to speak now as they are in a state of shock. He urged that the driver who caused her death be severely punished.

As Ashmita was a student of MGM College, the college principal declared a holiday on Saturday as a mark of respect.

Udupi: Hit by speeding car, topper who aspired to become lawyer dies; parents donate her eyes

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (PS/SP)

Udupi, Jun 17: A college student, who suffered grievous injuries after a car hit her at high speed, breathed her last at KMC Hospital Manipal on Saturday June 17 morning.

Ashmita Suvarna, resident of Ambalpady here and a first PU student of MGM College in the city, was waiting on the divider on national highway 66 near Cauvery Ford showroom at Kinnimulky here on the evening of Thursday Jun 16 evening when going home after her classes, when tragedy struck.

A Swift D'Zire car bearing New Delhi registration number that was moving towards Mangaluru came at high speed and hit the girl student who was standing over the divider. Ashmita, who sustained very serious injuries in the accident, was admitted into KMC Hospital at Manipal immediately.

In this accident, a motor bike rider who was very close in front of the car, had providential escape, as the car, after hitting the girl student, stopped after hitting the divider just short of the motor bike.

The doctors who observed that Ashmita had suffered internal injuries in her head and also back, put in their best efforts to save her. But she lost her battle for life today morning.

The police have observed reckless driving of the car driver through footage of the CCTV camera at the spot. A case stands registered in traffic police station here relating to the accident.

Ashmita was a bright student, a topper who had scored 96 percent in SSLC. Daughter of Ashok Anchan and Suneeta, residents of Ambalpady, Ashmita was pursuing first year PU science at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Pre-University College. In her last class essay on the topic of 'My ambition', she had stated that it was her dream to become a lawyer, but she had chosen science in PU on her parents' advice and because she would get to learn new things. In the essay, she had asserted that despite choosing science, she was determined to fulfil her goal of becoming a lawyer.

Organs donated

Soon after she was declared dead, in a heart-warming gesture, Ashmita's parents donated her eyes. The decision was taken as Ashmita had once told her mother that she wanted to donate her organs, having been inspired by a blood donation camp that she had attended.

In response to so many of the comments expressing shock and sympathy for this tragedy and demanding strictest punishment for the errant driver, it is really disheartening/surprising to notice a large number of 'disagrees'.

Doesn't seem to make any sense! Hope those disagreeing with the comments have something really constructive suggestions to offer.

As per Ashmita's wish, all her vital organs could have been used but due to the deadly accident, other organs were damaged. Only her eyes could be donated. RIP. You are no more in this world but someone will see through your eyes.

People who cause accident s by rash driving need their licence cancelled. I am really upset about the way some errant drivers get away with rash driving. Rash drivers need severe punishment in the form life imprisonment and need Thier licence cancelled. Here pareekshith Shetty of ocean pearl is clearly was driving rashly. Many questioned need to be answered ? Was he drunk at the time of accident? Did he drive under the I fluence of drugs? Did he have a valid licence? Best way to find out is to diagnose thorough investigation. I feel people like Pareekshith Shetty need severe punishment with cancellation of licence.

I agree with the victim's uncle and earnestly exhort the law to mete out the severest possible punishment to the driver. Further, the process by which The Ocean Pearl shortlists and employs its drivers should be investigated. Who are these drivers, how did they obtain their licences and what is their driving record? These are some of the questions that need to be asked. Do they even have proper licences and who was responsible both for granting the latter and for recruiting these half-baked ruthless road killers?

Incidentally, there are various forms of terrorism. And people on the roads of Mangalore and its environs are subjected to one of its forms everyday.

    Ninna atmakke shanti sikali...

Those reckless drivers who kill someone waiting on divider are not simply drivers, they are scound*el's of worst type.. name them, confiscate the documents and put these evils behind the bar for ever..

Heard of another accident where the reckless driver severely injured a couple siting in the parked car.. Shockingly that he did not bother to even go and speak to the injured couple.. if it was opposite, he would have brought a dozen friends to beat up and then claim some bhagya? Utter shame that we have such uncivilized heartless people around,.

Very sorry for the loss. May her soul rest in peace. Nowadays too many accidents and the offenders are get away with it if they are rich and influential persons. We need strong law to punish the guilty so that people are aware that they cannot just get away with it. Innocent girl lost her life and can't imagine the pain for her parents and family members. Hope local authorities wake up now for proper infrastructure and strict laws.

A really tragic loss of life, of a budding/brilliant lawyer-aspirant. RIP, Ashmita. May The Almighty give strength to your grieving family to bear this heart-breaking loss.

Hope the killer-driver is traced and severely punished, so that other accelerator-happy, reckless, potentially murderous drivers are nipped in the bud. Too many innocent young lives have already been lost. Enough is enough!

This is so shocking and sad. may her soul rest in peace. May God grant her parents and family members strength and courage to live with this untimely demise of this young girl.
This is high time that Authorities concerned punish the reckless drivers severely in such a way that they will never even dream of driving fast in life. Suspend this driver's driving licence and ensure strict and stringent action is taken against this driver as news confirm that CCTV has a proof of his reckless driving. If this driver is let go off, then people will loose faith in our judicial systems as proof is CCTV Footage. It could be that he is a student from Manipal.
