Mangaluru, Jun 17: A group of visually impaired artistes from Sringeri, presented  their musical talent, on the sidewalk of Mallikatta, on Tuesday evening, June 13.

Seeking not pity but an opportunity to perform, for occasions ahead, the self-promoting team performed a few songs for passersby with just a bunch of percussion instruments, an amplifier and a great deal of cheer.

They performed a few songs, were interrupted by rains, but were quite resolute and completed their performance till the end, taking shelter at the nearby building.

Addressing the passersby were handouts that informed the public that the artistes were a part of Sri Sharada Divyanga Kalasangha, and were 15 in all. The handout further read that the artistes had gotten public appreciation on Akashavahi and Doordarshan. Their  livelihood was not depended on others and they were keen on living  independently, which was why, as artistes they asked for encouragement in this effect, it read.

The undeterred artistes transformed the commonplace pavement in the city into a hub of music, even for the few hours. Worthy of attention was their sensitivity to public convenience seen by their timely and neat winding up of performance, a rare sight in the ever growing culture of public presentations.
