Mangaluru, Jun 10: Under the leadership of district health and Family welfare department the Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF) will be observed from June 12 to 24, across the district, informed district deputy health office Dr Sukvindar Pasha, to the media, at his office,  on Friday, June 9.

Explaining the programme he further said, "The District Health Department is conducting this programme to spread awareness about diarrhoea, to each family. The programme is schduled at just the beginning of monsoon, as diarrhoea begins to show up. Various activities will be part to this drive. ASHA workers and staffs of public health centre will visit all households with childred below five years of age, for pre-positioning the ORS. They will also distribute one packet of ORS free of cost, and explain its benefits. The importance of this activity is that ORS will be available in the house when needed at time of diarrhoea. It is often observed that during critical stages of diarrhoea, ORS is not available in the households. Secondly, all health facilities will also administer ORS and Zinc to children who are in need of them during diarrhoea. With a sharpened focus on demand generation, an important component of the IDCF activitiy shall not only create awareness but also generate demand."

Further adding he said, "The district health department has already started the handwash awareness programme in all schools. In the IDCF too, our workers will give demonstrations on handwash to children. Beside this we are conducting these awareness through distributing of hand bills and banners, among other things. Beside this, we have directed the concerned departments to Chlorinate water sources to avoid epidemics."
