Mumbai: Konkani Cultural Association hosts play 'Limbe Ani Mirsang'

Media Release

Mumbai, Jun 7: Konkani Cultural Association of Navi Mumbai hosted the humourous Konkani drama ‘Limbe Ani Mirsang’ written and directed by John R Mascarenhas, a well known personality in Konkani literary world, at Vishnudas Bhave Auditorium, Vashi, on Friday, June 2.

This was the second show of ‘Limbe Ani Mirsang’, after the one in Jerimeri on January 8.

Overall, the play was excellent and value for money. The donnée of the play was superstition and its ills.

The enthralling performance by the members of the Konkan Taram from Jerimeri, mesmerised the audience for two and half hours. Though it was a working day for many and though many of the families were yet to return from their summer vacation, the auditorium was almost packed to its maximum capacity. The crowd was so responsive that every scene was applauded by the audience and one could witness the resounding peals of laughter from the audience.

John R Mascarehas was at the peak of his performance with regard to direction of the play. His enacting three roles in the drama showed that he was very versatile in any character that he played, particularly his superb enactment of the blind man. Though the acting of other members of the group was commendable and every one did justice to their role, the performance Gracy Tauro as the lead lady character ‘Sherpin’  stood out. The couple dance performance by Joyson and Sheryl was outstanding and the performance of baby Melita mesmerized the audience, though it was just one scene.

Organising committee members like Richard D’Souza, Wilma Pereira, Lancy Pinto, Felix Fernandes, and Joseph Patrao, among others, arranged the felicitation programme during the show.

Koncana Association members honoured and felicitated Fr Moses from Nerul, Fr Louis from Kharghar and John Mascarenhas during the show.

It was informed to the audience that in line with the main objective of the Association, Koncana would continue to organise many cultural shows in Konkani in days to come, thus supporting and honouring the efforts put by many personalities in Konkani literary world.

Established in September 2016, Koncana, has hosted many Konkani programmes like Wilson Olivera nite, Mhataro Chorbela, Nashibacho Khell Movie, and three Goan Tiatrs. After this successful show of ‘Limbe Ani Mirsang’ the association has planned to organise programmes in near future. Programmes to follow will include the two Konkani movies ‘Ek Aslyar Ek Na’ and ‘Sophiya’.

Koncana members also have plans to celebrate their first anniversary in a grand manner in October. A cultural programme will be put up by members and their families, thus providing the opportunity to the association members and their children to showcase their talents.
