Panaji: Tremors in Goa after quake at Koyana


Panaji, Jun 4 (TOI): Earthquake of magnitude 4.8 on Richter scale at Koyana dam at 11.44pm sent mild tremors across Goa. The tremors were felt at Porvorim, Old Goa and Margao. The centre of the earthquake is Koyana area of Satara district. The tremors were also felt in Sangli and Kolhapur.

The officials of earthquake department of Koyana dam confirmed that the depth of the earthquake centre was 10km and tremors were felt around 120km in the region. Koyana is considered as a seismic zone.

On May 20, mild tremors of 2.8 on Richter scale were recorded and were felt around Koyana and Patan taluka of Satara district. The locals from Tasgaon taluka of Sangli district said sudden movement for about 5-8 seconds were felt.

No casualties or damage to the property had been recorded till midnight.
