Udupi, Jun 2: Kaup MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake conducted a ground breaking ceremony for a two kilometer long road widening project from Alevoor Manipal cross at a cost of Rs 184 lac on Thursday June 1.

Nailapade bridge had remained weak for decades and was on the verge of collapse. The bridge was convenient for people of Moodubelle Kalmanje to travel to Manipal and Udupi. The weak condition of the bridge made it unsuitable for two wheelers. Though the people here had requested elected representatives to construct a bridge, it was to no avail.

The MLA announced on the occasion that Rs 150 lac is released for the project. He also said that development of 25 lakes, Rs 300 crore worth vented dam and planting of one lac saplings are intended in Kaup Vidhana Sabha constituency.

Alevoor grama panchayat president Srikanth Nayak, former president Harish Kini, members Prabhavathi Menon, Sudhaker Poojary, Pushpa Anchan Swathi Prabhu, former taluk panchayat member Pravin Shetty, locals Alevoor Shekar Poojary, Raghava Poojary, Yathish Poojary Jaya Sherigar, Sandesh, Sudhaker Poojary, U T Bangera, Krishna Poojary, Sharada Naika, Krishna Ameen Selva, Gopal, Roopesh, contractor Suresh Shetty, Nithyananda Anchan, Suresh Naika, Sunanda Chanchal and PDO Budha Poojary were present.
