Kasargod, May 28: Continuing their demand with the Kerala government to withdraw the order on making Malayalam compulsory in schools, scores of protestors led by Kannada Horata Samiti on Saturday May 27 gheraoed the Kasargod and Manjeshwar taluk offices here.

The protest at Manjeshwar taluk office was inaugurated by Manjeshwar MLA P B Abdul Razak.

Manjeshwar block panchayat president A K M Ashraf, Kerala province Kannada medium teachers' association district president TD Sadadhiv Rao and leaders Srinivas Rao Bakrabail, Sathish Shetty Oddambettu, Saifulla Tangal, parish priest of Kayyar church Fr Vincent D'Souza, advocate V Balakrishna Shetty, Ramachandra Bhat Dharmatadka, Narayana Hegde, Mahesh, Meenaru Balakrishna Shetty, Harishchandra Manjeshwar, Suresh Shetty Parankila and Prasad Rai Kayyar were present.

Prior to the protest, a rally was held from Uppala Kaikamba to the protest venue.

Purushotham Master, Raveesh Tantry Kuntar, S V Bhat, Somashekar, Venkataramana Holla, Keshava Prasad Nanitthilu, S L Bharadwaj and Shivaram Kasargod led the protest at Kasargod taluk office.

The protestors set fire to a copy of the order in order to drive home their point.

Earlier in the week, Kannadigas on Kerala-Karnataka border had gathered in huge numbers and staged a strong protest by blocking the entrance to the DC's office, stalling administrative works for a day.

The Kannada Horata Samiti has decided to observe 'cruelty day' on June 1 in Kasargod district.

On June 8, Kannada Chalavali Okkuta led by Vatal Nagaraj will hold a bandh by blocking the national highway in Kasargod.

wiki says " At its greatest extent, the presidency (of Madras) included most of southern India, including the whole of the Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh and parts of Odisha, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, and the union territory of Lakshadweep. The city of Madras was the winter capital of the Presidency and Ootacamund or Ooty, the summer capital. The island of Ceylon was a part of Madras Presidency from 1793 to 1798 when it was created a Crown colony".

.... and so did other linguistic states. So many people belonging to so many languages and communities migrate to different places either for livelihood or otherwise. "When in Rome, do as the Romans do". In that scenario, Maharashtra would lay siege on Belgaum and there are as many Marathi speaking people in Hyderabad Karnataka region as in Kasargod to Neeleshwar. Practically speaking, the locals of Kasargod to neighboring areas are better off if they learn the local dialect and language officially so that it may help them in the local government jobs, i feel.

Huge uproar when Sanskrit is proposed to be made compulsory. Not a whimper when Malayalam is made compulsory in Kannada speaking areas. Oh, Kerala is ruled by tolerant sickulars!

Atleast there is no hypocrites and cowdung bhakts ruling kerala. People commenting and condemning here enforcement of Malayalam first should condemn Kannada enforcement in Karnataka schools. Anyways, Pinarayi will never back track on his decisions. He is 'Man of steel' and Pride of Kerala.

If you don't know the history, don't comment please. It really hurts.
Kasaragod was part of Dakshina Kannada until 1956, when it was gifted to Kerala for political reasons.
I studied in Kasaragod in Kannada medium school through out. All of our land documents are still in Kannada.
Would you sponsor the poor people to study in Mangalore if they can't study in their village? Talk sense.

This move will kill Kannada language in Kasaragod once and for all.
