Kalaburagi resident arrested in Dubai for carrying banned drug

Hyderabad, May 27 (Deccan Chronicle): A Gulbarga (Kalaburagi) resident was arrested at the Dubai airport for carrying Lyrica 150 mg, a drug banned in Dubai.

Md Naqeeb Basha was staying in Dubai since four years and had visited his hometown to attend his brother's marriage. After the marriage he went back to Dubai on May 21 from Hyderabad.

While he was waiting at the Hyderabad airport his friends Imran and Rafiq came to meet him. Later, they gave him a parcel and told him that it would be collected by one Abdullah in Dubai. He trusted them and took the parcel with him. His friends have a medical shop named National Medical and General Stores in Bada Bazaar, Golconda.

As soon as Naqeeb landed in Dubai he was arrested by the police for carrying a banned substance and since four days he is in jail, said Abdul Mujeeb, the brother of Naqeeb.

He added, “My brother is innocent and was working hard for our family. He trusted his friends and carried the parcel with him. We have filed a complaint with the Golconda police. We request the external affairs minister to help us in getting my brother out of Dubai jail.”

When contacted Golconda inspector said they received a complaint from the family and have booked the persons responsible under Section 420 for cheating.

Ha Ha..... I was watching our Indian cricket team went to New Zealand. The custom and security officers did not allow Harbajan singh to take his shoes out of Airport.... New Zealand got ban on carrying risk items i.e.. goods like food, plants, wooden products, soil, water, outdoor equipment, and animal products.... Do you mean our security officers has to keep a list of items which are not allowed in other countries??????

Logic .... you misunderstood. i.e. from Dubai you can carry foreign currency, gold, electronic items etc and Dubai custom officers will not make any problem to outgoing passengers, but if they are travelling to India.... the custom will allow these items without paying any taxes. It is banned without paying taxes. India will allow the passengers to carry pickle, pork, medicine etc from Indian Airports but other Government custom officials will not allow and they will treat as these are banned items.

Sad as it is,mostly use such people who are innocent ,and without any feelings for others situation ,they want to make their business. We dont know why he took it without opening,Living in dubai for four years, must have certainly known a bit about about punishment about carrying certain things.Very sad.Noone will believe him oor his brothers.Better file a case against people who gave him parcel.let these people not slipoff from country.why he didnt ask the address of the "Friend"who would come to fetch it.many mistakes now put him in jail.So sorry .It will be every hard to release or to show them he is innocent.

You are correct. His story does not hold up. Who would accept a package at the airport without expecting it. Since he was arrested immediately upon arrival, the authorities had intelligence on him. Even Indian authorities might have observed him accepting the package and notified Dubai.
