Only NCP interested in taking part in EVM hacking challenge: EC

New Delhi, May 26 (PTI): Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party is the only party which has shown interest in taking part in the EVM hacking challenge organised by the poll panel on June 3, a Commission spokesperson said here.

The challenge, announced by the EC to counter allegations of EVM tampering levelled by parties such as Aam Admi Party and BSP, will be held on June 3 between 10 am and 2pm.

He said a total of eight parties had responded to EC's letter of invitation for the June 3 event.

"NCP expressed interest in participating in the EVM challenge. AAP and Congress raised some issue as per the existing framework of challenge but have not expressed their interest in participating.

"The CPI, CPI(M), BJP and RLD expressed their interest to observe (the challenge)," he said.

The All India NR Congress wrote that it will not participate in the challenge, the spokesperson said.

On Saturday last, the Commission had announced that the challenge to hack and tamper with the electronic voting machines (EVMs) would take place on June 3 and the seven recognised national and 49 state parties can apply till this evening to participate in the challenge.

After the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls, the BSP and AAP had questioned the reliability of the machines.

Later, several opposition parties, except the AAP, had urged the EC to revert to paper ballot, saying the faith of the people in EVMs has eroded.

A demand of the AAP to tamper with the motherboard of the machine was rejected by the Commission. It said change in circuits would mean the EVM is no longer the one used by the Commission.

Many of them were commenting as if thry are 100% sure that DVM's can be tampered. When it's time for action everyone is missing.

Guys common accept the challenge of EC and prove that you're correct.

Two days back Srinivasan Jain of NDTV interviewed Mr. Zaidi, CEC. The journo, who is staunch anti-Modi guy, tried his best, but at the end accepted that Mr. Zaidi is an apolitical man of integrity. Mr. Zaidi's answers were quite convincing.

EC should give the political parties the opportunity to prove the tampering by allowing them to enable tampering of the machine. The allegation of the opposition is that the EVM is already tampered when it is placed in the booth. Give them a chance. EC should not put riders for such an important test which the whole nation is watching.

Allegations of EVM tampering was a ploy of some political parties to divert attention of their existing voter base and make them still believe that they did not lose but were made to lose unfairly. This smacks of arrogance on the part of political parties who treat their supporters as gullible fools. If tampering of EVMs was easy as replacing motherboards in a secured environment, this country would have seen thousands of ATM frauds where one can easily replace ATM mother board and draw cash. Most of the ATM's are unguarded or some poor chaps who can be easily overpowered. Even after the EC challenge there are fools in parties like AAP who are requesting EC to allow change in motherboard without applying their brains. If the mother board is allowed to be changed, it does not remain original EVM. This is either the height of stupidity or arrogance.

EC, learn from EVM inventors they themselves are not using EVMs because they can be tampered just like you. Arrange open 'Hackthon'' to restore trust in EVMs. Elections are such an events where country's fate depends upon so it should fair can not depend upon software controlled machines.
