Udupi, May 26: A woman who had failed to repay loan borrowed by her from Karnataka State Finance Corporation to open an ice plant was cheated by another man when she attempted to sell her land.

Jalaja R Salian (74), resident of Badanidiyoor, had taken a loan from KSFC to open Coral Fisheries Ice Plant in her village. As she failed to repay the loan, KSFC officials came to auction the ice plant in 2001. Therefore, she entered into an oral agreement and settlement deed on March 15, 2001 with accused Madhavarama that she would sell her one acre and 30 cents land to him. She also asked Madhavarama to repay her loan at KSFC and Mahalaxmi Cooperative bank with the price of the land he was giving her.

However, Madhavarama cheated Jalaja by transferring the land in his name without making any payment. Besides, accused Madhavarama and accused Dayavathi Suvarna entered the house of Jalaja, assaulted her, hurled expletives and threatened to kill her.

A case has been registered in this regard at Malpe police station.
