Mangaluru: Boat capsizes off Alivebagilu, all ten fishermen rescued

Mangaluru, May 25: A gillnet boat capsized after hitting a mound of sand during deep-sea fishing off Alivebagilu here on the evening of Wednesday May 24.

Ten fishermen who were on the boat were rescued by another fishing boat.

The boat belonging to Lokanath Bolar set out for deep-sea fishing a few days ago. On Wednesday evening, it was returning to Mangaluru harbour when it hit a mound of sand near Alivebagilu. As a result, the boat began to sink.

Luckily for the 10 fishermen aboard, another fishing boat was also on its return journey towards the harbour. The boat rushed to the rescue of the stranded fishermen and brought them safely ashore.

The gillnet boat owner Lokanath Bolar has incurred a loss of Rs 70 lac due to the incident.

Bunder police have registered a case.
