London: Kannadiga Dr Neeraj Patil chosen labour candidate for UK's upcoming elections

London, May 23: Dr Neeraj Patil has been chosen as Labour party candidate from Putney constituency in London for the upcoming General elections in Great Britain.

Dr Neeraj Patil is doctor of Karnataka origin. Presently he is a consultant in accident and emergency medicine.

MP for Croydon North and Shadow Local Government Minister Steve Reed launched the campaign for Dr Neeraj Patil on Monday, May 22 from Bangalore Street in London.

Dr Patil has been chosen by the Labour Party as the candidate for Putney constituency of London. He has been pitted against the Conservative education minister of Britain Justine Greening who has been representing the constituency since 2005.

Dr Neeraj Patil was born and brought up in Gulbarga in Karnataka. He had been in the forefront of installing a statue of 12th-century philosopher Basaveshwara on the bank of the river Thames.

Dr Patil has been a member of the Labour Party since fifteen years and was a councillor for Larkhall Ward in Vauxhall between 2006 and 2014. During this period 2010-2011, he was Mayor of Lambeth.

He was also on the Labour party shortlist to run for Mayor in 2015, losing out on the nomination to Sadiq Khan.

In 2014,Dr Patil joined the Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP) in India, saying it was the only party that reflects the true diversity and multiculturalism of India.
