Mangaluru, May 20: A young woman who sustained critical injuries in an accident near Yedapadavu passed away on Saturday May 20.

Navya Shetty (21), a student of Alva's Engineering College, Moodbidri, succumbed to injuries suffered in a bike accident that took place on Friday May 19.

It is learnt that Navya along with her classmate was on her way to St Joseph Engineering College for a campus interview. When they reached near Yedapadavu, her classmate who was riding the bike applied sudden brakes on noticing an approaching car, and the bike skidded. Navya who was sitting pillion fell to the ground and suffered serious injuries.

Navya was admitted to hospital, but failed to respond to treatment.

Navya was the daughter of Prabhakar Shetty, a resident of Kilenjar, Kinnigoli. She was pursuing final year of engineering in computer science.

Requesting parents, please do not give motor bikes to your children, ultimately parents fault putting innocent peoples lives at risk. Its extremely dangerous these days to drive two wheeler.

Navya was 21. And the vehicle driver, Navya's classmate, would have also been 21.

If the driver is under 30 years of age, the driver's ability is not optimum.

With a younger driver, the vehicle is likely to go out of control.

Unfortunately the young lady could not be saved.

My suggestion to people:
Do not ever get into/on a vehicle that is driven by someone 30 years and less.
Unless you are serious to say goodbye to this world.

Though this is not a good time to express mistakes of rullers, all must understand that wearing of helmets is monitored only inside the cities. Whereas the actual monitoring should be in the places where the youngsters drive very fast. The importance is given mostly to the volume of amount collected as penalty, not the quality and usefulness of monitoring.

My heartfelt condolences to her family.

Some observations and suggestions:
1. All drivers need to be re-trained and reassessed in driving schools who adhere to world class driving practices. It shocking to see that most Trainers themselves are not well qualified to drive a car.
2. Most "Trainers" from Motor Driving schools have no idea about the uses of Rearview mirror, Indicators or Lane & Speed discipline. They only focus on their 'clutch' and 'brake' nonsense.
3. Erratic Drivers should be penalized by using speed guns and CCTV's.

Dear 2-wheeler riders (both rider and pillion), please make it a habit to wear helmet. Whenever we Traffic Wardens stop those without helmets, we hear varied excuses for not wearing helmet - from riding for a short distance, to I forgot, to arrogant replies like I left it at home. But the fact remains that nothing can replace helmet. Think of your parents and family that have pinned hope on you.

Life is too precious to compare it with little savings of time and money that can be achieved by riding a bike. Even helmets may not really protect one from serious injuries sustained by bikers. It is unbearable to see the premature loss of young life through bike accidents.

Protect life; travel by a safer mode of transport like in a city bus.

Commenting this could not be the best option. Pray for Navya. Everything happens for a reason and hope her parents will remember her good characters and habits rather then to cry for the lose.
Every incident happens, and it leaves a lesson for us. Rules are rules and we need tp follow it. Wear the helmet. It will save many lives.

We pray God to give strength to her parents to with stand the unbearable loss. Almost everyday there are reports of loss of life due to accidents either because of bad roads or driver's fault of rash/irresponsible driving. Discipline of responsible driving will be key factor to prevent such tragedies.

It seems the rider was wearing a helmet hence got saved while the pillion wasn't hence suffered serious head injuries and succumbed to it. Please wear helmet & be safe , Rules are made for our safety not to harrass us. Anyway may the departed soul rest in peace.

Basically i am from same place, where the incident took place and we protested 6 month ago reason for poor road and on same rash driving of Heavy tipper and buses. at least the local ruling party was not understood the situation and not supported and not even taken any work on road.

i am always supporting common people, not any party-cong,bjp,jds...etc.

people should think twice while, commenting or anything.. party is for do the job. not for helping.then only our country will shine on every department.

@srikanth,mangalore,here I find in your comment nowhere a word to the deceased soul ,or parents,but politic and about road mishap.Here bad road wasnt a mistake but I feel their missing helmet (both or one)was the main cause,besides their speed?Always rider should insist on wearing a helmet ,or not ride without it.For both it is important.Nowadays too many vehicles,no rules are followed,no tempo limit.Everyone does as he wants.sorry this budding young lady left too early this world.whose mistake we dont know.But parents it is a great loss.may her soul rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathys to her family.

5 years your bjp govt was in the state what they and your are doing that time,
accident may happend for many reason, first let bikers go in a limited speed , i have seen how these people are going on that road, there is nothing called urgency or emergency for anyone except medical condition ,
