Sullia: Kundapur family returning from Velankanni meets with accident, 9 injured

Sullia, May 19: Less than a week after a tragic accident while returning from Velankanni claimed the lives of seven persons of a family from Kasargod, another family, this time from Kundapur, met with an accident while returning from the same pilgrimage centre.

Luckily, the family, including a child, escaped with injuries.

The accident took place at Kanakamajalu here when their tempo traveller went out of control and rammed into a roadside retaining wall.

The injured have been identified as Archie Carvalho (51), Anita Dias (28), Francis Assisi, Savian (2), Antony D'Almeida (52), Antony Sandesh, Sathish, Alice Rita, and Jacob D'Souza.

All of them have been admitted to hospital in Mangaluru and are said to be out of danger.

Francis and Anitha got married just about two weeks ago, sources said. Sandesh and his wife Treza live in Saudi and had come down to their hometown just a few days ago to attend the wedding. Savian (2) is their child.

Soon after the accident, locals gathered at the spot and helped in rescuing the injured and shifting them to hospital.

Sullia police have registered a case.

    Best thing is to avoid travel by a car or tempo as it is driven by a single driver. It is quite natural that he may fall asleep while driving. Better travel by a train which is more safer.

    This famous deity is supposed to be a protector of her ardent devoteess? At loss of words to explain the two recent accidents when innocent lives were snatched away in the prime of their youth when they were returning after paying obeseince to her???

    In long hour journey, one passenger in front seat must keep the driver occupied in discussion than all passengers dozing off and he doing the slog though a hired driver. Switch seats among passengers to take turns to take a little sleep. A little sacrifice/pain is worth a pleasant trip.

    Thank God ,none of them are in danger.Most probably the driver was too much tired,so that with the time he couldnt control the van.what a luck they had ,cameout without much danger.Mother mary was probably had mercy with them.Wish them all the best.
