Udupi, May 18: Secretary of AICC and Congress party district observer P C Vishnunath on Thursday, May 18 convened a core committee meeting with party leaders and workers to chalk out plans for 2018 polls at district Congress Bhavan, Brahmagiri here.
Speaking to reporters in a press conference, Vishnunath said, "I came here to take part in the meeting with party workers as per the instruction given by chief minister Siddaramaiah. The meeting was held to discuss how to strengthen the party from the grassroot level and prepare for the upcoming Assembly elections in 2018. The ultimate aim of the party is to retain power in Karnataka by winning the 2018 polls and then win the parliamentary elections.
"Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in the state has already fulfilled 150 out of the 165 promises made in the last election manifesto. As secretary of the Pradesh Congress, it is my responsibility to propagate schemes and programmes of the state government," he said.
"We are also planning to conduct aggressive meeting to rebuild the party from the grassroot level. It is the agenda of KPCC to conduct meetings in all the districts. I am the in-charge of Mysuru division. There are nine districts which come under this division. I have already travelled to six districts. After Udupi, I will visit Chikkamagluru," he added.
Pramod Madhwaraj, district in-charge minister, district H M Revanna, Karnataka Pradesh Congress leader, Kadur Nanjappa, senior party leader, Rajanna, advocate of high court, Saundarya P Manjappa, Gopal Bhandary, former MLA, Veronica Cornelio, former president, district women Congress, M A Gafoor, chairman, Karnataka State Minorities Development Corporation, Narasimha Murthy, president, town planning authority and others were present.
Speaking to reporters about plans for the development of sports in Udupi, district in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj said, "The wooden floor of the district badminton court will be replaced at a cost of about Rs 46 lac. Synthetic mat will be rolled out on the wooden court at a cost of Rs 31 lac. The district indoor badminton court will be made fully air-conditioned very soon at a cost of Rs 1 crore. Udupi will get new Padukone Training Academy to train aspiring badminton players."
