Mangaluru: Criminal cases against people dumping garbage by roadsides - ZP CEO

Mangaluru, May 11: Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat (ZP) chief executive officer (CEO), Dr M R Ravi, has directed the panchayat development officers of all the gram panchayats in the district to file criminal cases against people unloading waste and garbage by the sides of national and state highways in the district.

He has also asked the gram panchayats to install CCTV cameras at spots where garbage is being dumped by the side of roads and highways, and wanted formation of watch squads to patrol the streets at night. "Complaints should be filed in police stations against owners of vehicles which bring garbage and dump there. Complaints should also be sent to regional transport officer, requesting him to cancel registration of such vehicles," he urged.

He also asked the consultant of the district assistance unit to regularly visit villages and conduct inspection in order to regulate garbage accumulation.

    Dr Ravi,
    please provide a Garbage dumping bins and see to it that they get cleared on time. we has citizens should have this as a bare minimum that you guys need to provide to throw our household garbage.Mangalore no doubt is getting cleaner by the day but after collecting so much as taxes its your look out to provide the basic facilities at whatever given time to throw our garbage off course at the right place provided which seems to be not there at present.So what do you expect? The cats and dogs around tear the plastics and look for leftovers.Is this the citizens fault.i know its just a begining but lets get going and correct it.

    Dear Dr M R Ravi, Filing the case against people is easy, but prior to that arrange some waste containers every corner of the street then try to become smart. First instruct MCC to despose of the garbage regularly. People are not having fun to dump the garbage by roadside if there were waste Drums/Containers also people can't keep the waste in the Fridge when every citizens are paying for swatch tax as well as waste collection tax. You people are smart enough to collect all types of Taxes but can't provide a decent service.

    Very good suggestion, but need MCC support, at first find out a right dumping area out of the city. MCC must shift the dumping are from Pacchanadi.

    Garbage and waste collection is an enormous job and responsibility in a country such as India where the population is multiplying each year. Collection of waste and garbage and disposal in suitable places is also another problem because the space is limited all over the place and the disposal of waste and garbage requires utmost precaution.

    Disposal of waste and garbage is equally a costly venture, but something has to be done sooner or later in India so that the waste is properly disposed without causing any health hazard or contamination of soil or environment. Our villages, towns and cities need protection from all sorts of environmental protection. Ultimately, it is the human health of each and every human being without being impacted by any health hazards caused by the disposal of waste and garbage.

    Topics such as these are delicate and fragile. Topics such as these need cooperation from each and everyone. We must avoid making any derogatory remarks that affect anyone at any level. We just finished a nice article on Daijiworld magazine that outlines the seriousness of utilizing tens of thousands of scavangers in India who themselves may be impacted thru health hazards by indulging into collection and disposal of human waste. This is a problem that has to be shared by each one. Earlier we plan and budget and implement is good for all of us.

    Please go and see places like Jokatte,Parangipete,Mudipu etc you find heaps of garbage with plastic bags. This happens only in specific places which district administration must control.

    It's like telling people not to piss on roadside without providing enough of toilets. We can come up with strict laws and punishments. But, can not find solutions.

    People Probably Won’t Change their Bad Habits. I have seen in Udupi , Mangalore , there are paid toilets and they charge small amount to keep it clean.... But our people instead of paying small amount they search for road side without charges for all their discharge.

    Good rule! Fantastic! Hope this rule is not on paper only, will be implemented strictly without delay! Rule and punishment should be extended to those dumping garbage into river and lakes! If few offenders caught regularly and fine heavily, this will surely work! Public support can work wonders on such implementation! Who does not like clean surroundings?? Some coward people keep their home and land clean and dump garbage outside their area!

    can Zp show one criminal case agaisnt who dump garbage, this is simple a drama, many people dumping waste used items, hotel waste ,construction waste daily on the road side , they must catch red handedly and take actions,

    Joke of the Century. All these rules try on the Rich people flinging bottles cigarettes outside their cars. Cops are not bothered. Helmet rule, seat belt, talking on mobile. Just watch the cops near Balmatta, Kadri circle. In Bejai, no cops and now car parking is on the road and not parking areas. Just let one minister come, all cars to be vacated. Smart city is gonna be a FUN City.
