Udupi, May 8: If you are an aspiring singer and looking for a break in the music or movie industry, this is your chance. The makers of upcoming 'Pettkammi' Tulu film are looking for fresh talents for the movie's official song.
'Pettkammi' is a youthful Tulu film from the makers of the Kannada film 'The Plan' starring Ananth Nag. It is produced by Ashok Shetty and Sunil Shetty with the banner of Malgudi Talkies. It is directed by Keerthi. Producer Ashok Shetty has worked for more than 10 years in Bollywood and now promises to bring out a good content-rich film in Tulu.
The filmmakers are keen on promoting and encouraging new talents of the coastal region and giving a chance to new comers, recognizing their talents and bringing them before the public eye.
The team held successful auditions for actors in Vaikunta Baliga Law College, Udupi and Forum Fiza Mall, Mangaluru, on March 11 and 12 respectively. Technicians, assistants and even dialogue writers have been auditioned for and carefully chosen. Fresh faces and raw, untouched talents is what makes this film truly special.
“We want to make a good film and also promote new talent”- says producer Ashok Shetty.
Hence, keeping their commitment, they have decided to conduct auditions for a new male playback singer for their film. This audition has an interesting procedure- The Voice for Pettkammi program.
A song will be recorded in the voice of music director Richard- who is composing songs for Pettkammi. The title of the teaser-like song is ‘Popunda..Popunda..’ and it is of 90 seconds duration. This song will be released after 6.30 pm on Sunday, May 14 at MJC Ground Manipal during the ‘Darpan 2017’ dance event presented by Prashanth N Group Dance Academy (PnG).
Post the song’s release, the song and its lyrics will be shared on the Facebook pages of Pettkammi and on the internet. Those interested to audition will have to record the same song in their own voice and email it to malgudi.talkies@gmail.com. Out of the so many entries, 20 to 30 best ones will be selected and called to their studio, where their song will be recorded and then shared on the Pettkammi page. The selected singers will have to share it with their friends and families, as much as they can. Finally, the one who gets the maximum number of views and likes on Facebook will bag it - and get the chance to be the original voice of the official song titled ‘Popunda..Popunda..’ of the film ‘Pettkammi’.
People seem to be eagerly waiting for the song-release. Many have already contacted the filmmakers asking them about the song. They could rope in any singer they’d like. Yet, the filmmakers have chosen to carry out an audition for a new talent with this procedure. Ashok Shetty said ‘Hope the best one gets the chance to sing the song for the film’.
This seems like a great opportunity for those who’ve always aspired to be a professional singer and sing for films. Those who’ve been trying, but never got a chance- this is their golden chance. And it couldn’t get easier . The makers of the film believe that we do have a lot of talent in coastal Karnataka; it’s just that those talents don’t get a platform to be recognized. They aim to bring those talents out into public view, and help promote those talented people.
The film is said to release in the end of July, provided the monsoon permits. Singers! Get your spirits high, throats cleared and wait for the Sunday evening of May 14. We hope that Voice for Pettkammi will help to mark the beginning of something beautiful for someone, and that Pettkammi sees the success it deserves.
