The baby in question was born go Shruti and Chittaiah couple from Palavvanahalli in Hiriyur taluk in the district. A girl who posed herself as a nurse reportedly took away the child.

Shruti says that a young lady who came to her ward claiming herself to be a nurse of the hospital, told her that the doctor had asked BCG vaccine to be administered to the child. She picked the child up, and hurriedly went away, duly asking the child's mother to follow her. By the time the lady got up and began moving, the nurse was nowhere in sight, the mother stated. A case about the incident was registered in the women's police station here.

Shruti said that a female baby was born to her, which happened to be her second child, on April 27. The hospital had discharged her on the next day but she reportedly requested the nurses to allow her to stay till Monday. But the baby was stolen on Sunday morning, a sobbing Shruti explained.
