Mangaluru: Physically handicapped person’s assoc to host ‘Chaitanya' on Apr 30

Mangaluru Apr 28: “The people of Mangaluru should to come forth and attend the silver jubilee celebrations ‘Chaitanya 1992-2017’ organized at the Town hall on Sunday April 30 at 9:30 am. Three ex-army soldiers will be honoured under the tagline of ‘wounded soldiers’ on the occasion,” said president of the DK and Udupi district physically Handicapped person’s association Dr Muralidhar Naik, secretary Koragappa Gowda and treasurer Harish Shetty.

Addressing the news conference on Friday April 28, Dr Naik spoke about the formation of the association way back in 1992 under the able-guidance of their honourable president Dr M Shanthrama Shetty, a well known orthopaedic surgeon and educationalist and Dr V Muralidhar Naik, professor, University College, Mangaluru.

The association was formed primarily for the disabled persons of DK and Udupi districts who were neglected and deprived of their legitimate rights by the society. The association assists its members by finding out measures to redress their grievances by negotiations and consultation with concerned government authorities. Besides, the association provides group insurance cover to eligible members and provides scholarships to the children of members studying in schools and colleges. They help the needy members to meet their hospital expenses. All these activities are being carried out without any financial assistance from government or other agencies.

This event will be graced by eminent dignitaries such as Dr N Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor Nitte University. He will also inaugurate the programme. The important guests visiting this programme are B Ramanath Rai, Naleen Kumar Kateel, U T Khader, Ivan D'Souza, J R Lobo, Captain Ganesh Karnik, Meenakshi Shanthigowda, Kavitha Sunil, Umesh Prabhu M, Dr K G Jagdish, Dr M R Ravi, Sunder Pujari, Shobha and Vivekananda.

He also brought out the pitiful condition of the disabled people and their inability to acquire proper land to expand their association during the news conference. This association began with about 40 members and now has surpassed to more than 5000 members.
