Udupi, Apr 25: Employees of a private company working at the RTO office here protested on Tuesday April 25 against non-payment of their salaries. As they boycotted work, people coming to the office for their official needs were put to hardship.

RTO data entry department staff Chitra, Nandita and Jayalaxmi boycotted work as they were not paid their salaries. More than 200 people came to the data entry center and returned empty-handed.

The RTO head office in Bengaluru is assigning the work of staff recruitment and technology in different district RTOs to a private contractor. The RTO in Manipal has assigned contractors, Mind Solutions, the responsibility to appoint staff in the RTO.

Mind Solutions managing director Chandrakanth had recruited three people for the data entry department for a salary of Rs 4,500 per month. The company however has not paid their salaries for the last eight months. Whenever the staff asked for their salaries, they would be told by Chandrakanth to continue working and that the salaries would be paid later. The staff have been provided inferior quality computer which breaks down often. RTO officials have asked them to sort out their problems with their boss as they are not on RTO rolls. The response has disappointed the staff.

Daijiworld had written a letter to RTO Ramakrishna who responded that he had nothing to do with it. Therefore Daijiworld wrote another email to the head office in Bengaluru. The officials have promised to make the contractor pay the salaries and take suitable action against him.

Social activist Nithyananda Olakadu urged for payment of salaries and provision of basic amenities to the data entry staff.

This is the big corruption, 4500 rupees per person is very small amount . The actual quotation may be more than 25 thousands per person.. ... Balance amount may be mutually dividing by RTO officers and the contractor..

in the present situvation people wants work to be done immediatly by paying little money instead wasting time behind the rto office everyday,

Really shame, The employer should make sure that the contractor pay minimum wages plus the statutory benefits to the workers. Here Government official failed in their basic duty and humanity. No dignity of labour is honoured.

This is really a serious offence!!!
I just can't believe that the company has not paid their salaries for the last eight months and that too their salary is Rs.4,500.00 per month. They would have approached a just and honest political leader irrespective either from Congress or BJP to get the justice. Hope that somebody will come to their rescue and get the dues with compound interest...

It looks these staff are outsourced and are low paid. RTO should take to task the outsourced contractor to pay their salaries or cancel the contract. Minimum wages also needs to be paid. Why they are washing hands saying that they have nothing to do with it. If RTO office work is getting effected they can cancel the outsourcing contract and hire someone else.

You are absolutely right. RTO cannot wash hands in this serious matter. After all, RTO has appointed this contractor to do their jobs.

Very sad that RTO officers slipping from their responsibility saying that they got nothing to do with it. Its their social responsibility to put payment on hold to the sub contractor and ensure that these data entry operators payment is made by their boss. How can they do that ? because Private agency must have paid commission to get the contract. Why Labour dept is not responding ?
