Nottingham: Pius Rasquinha elected president of MUKA

Nottingham (UK), Apr 25: Pius Rasquinha has been elected president of Mangalorean United Konkani Association for the 2017-2019 term.

The election was held during the biennial general body meeting a day after the Easter celebrations at Bramcote Memorial Hall, Nottingham. Fr Charles Menezes led the prayer invoking God's blessings on the gathering.

Vincent D’Souza, the outgoing president welcomed all the members and expressed gratitude to all the office bearers and members towards their support in his tenure. Secretary Pius Rasquinha read out the report and treasurer Naveen Lobo presented the accounts for the year 2015-17. Both biennial report and accounts were passed by the members present.

John Fernandes conducted the election of the new committee for the year 2017-19. Pius Rasquinha was elected as president unanimously.


The elected office-bearers for the year 2017-19 are as follows:

Pius Rasquinha – President
Anitha Menezes – Vice-president
ShaliniPinto – Secretary
Naveen Lobo – Treasurer
Deepak Alvares – Communications co-ordinator
Dorothy D’Souza - Cultural secretary
StanySequeira – Liturgical secretary

John Fernandes, Julian Noronha, Jerald Alvares, Conrad Aranha – Additional committee members.

Pius Rasquinha thanked outgoing president Vincent D’Souza for leading the association successfully. He asked support from the new committee and members and promised he would strive to bring the community together to promote and for the betterment of Konkani.

A discussion was held with regard to organising the programmes for the current year and it was decided to hold annual summer day out event on Saturday July 8, 2017.

The meeting concluded with a hymn.
