Kundapur: Groom-to-be killed in hit-and-run accident at Uppunda

Kundapur, Apr 23: In a tragic incident, a youth who was days away from getting married was killed in a hit-and-run accident on NH-66 near Shalebagilu, Uppunda here on Sunday April 23.

The deceased has been identified as Ganesh (31), a resident of Nagamane, KB Road, Bhatkal.

Another person, identified as Durgi, who was riding pillion with Ganesh, sustained minor injuries.

It is learnt that Ganesh and Durgi were riding towards Ganesh's native Padukone when a car rammed into their bike near Shalebagilu. Ganesh got thrown on to the road and sustained serious injuries. He was rushed to a private hospital in Kundapur, from where he was taken to Udupi for further treatment, but he passed away on the way.

The car that smashed into Ganesh's bike sped away and is yet to be traced.

Ganesh's marriage was scheduled to be held shortly. He was on the way to his mother's house at Padukone, where he was supposed to visit neighbours and relatives to distribute his wedding invitations.

Byndoor police have registered a case.

    I agree fully with Mr. Rao, Udupi. Safety education is essential for all, especially youngsters. Authorities, including NGOs should plan and conduct regular safety awareness campaigns and teach all drivers how to drive safely in our rather unsafe roads.

    Daily so many lives are lost due to accidents. Reason is majorly not following traffic rules or recklessness in driving. RTO authorities at least should wake up and have awareness campaign to educate the drivers on safe driving. I urge various NGOs also to join hands in this regard.

    Countless youngsters are loosing lives on bikes. Is there any remidial measures or will it go on. The driver of the car to be caught and booked for murder as he has fled accident scene.May his soul rest in peace.
