Ontario: Mangalurean lad Vijay Dante set to contest provincial election in Canada

Ontario, Apr 21: In order to serve the community and the Canadian society at large Everest Vijay Dante popularly known as Vijay Dante decided to jump into Canadian politics. Now he is all set to win the candidature as the nominee for the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party’s MPP in the upcoming election. Vijay is urging the community members for their full support in participating in the signature campaign. He requires around 2,000 to 3,000 signatures from the Canadian residents to become successful in the qualifying round.

Canadian citizens can vote in elections for three levels of government – federal, provincial and municipal, or local, government. The federal government is responsible for matters that affect all of Canada. Provincial and territorial governments look after such matters as education, health care and highways. Municipal governments are responsible for local matters such as policing, firefighting, libraries and parks and recreation. The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada is responsible for the administration of federal elections, referendums and other important aspects of Canada’s electoral system.

Ontario provincial elections are run by Ontario’s Chief Electoral Officer. Municipal clerks run municipal elections for mayors, city councilors, aldermen, controllers, and school trustees which are held every four years in November, under the laws of the Province of Ontario. The Legislative Assembly makes the laws of Ontario, including those governing voting in provincial elections. Three main laws, or Acts, govern the election process: The Election Act – the rules and regulations for Ontario provincial elections. The Election Finances Act – the rules and regulations for financial contributions to political parties and candidates and their election expenses. The Representation Act – the Act establishing the number, names and boundaries of Ontario’s electoral districts, or ridings.

Ontario is divided into 107 electoral districts, sometimes called ridings, and each is represented by an elected Member of the Provincial Parliament (MPP). An election is held in each riding to choose the MPP to speak in the Legislative Assembly for the riding’s citizens. The MPPs meet to make the laws to govern Ontario.

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) directs the work of Elections Ontario and ensures the rules and regulations set out by the legislation are followed, including the voting process and campaign financing rules. The Lieutenant Governor in Council (The Cabinet) appoints a Returning Officer for each electoral district who works under the direction of the Chief Electoral Officer. The Returning Officers organize and conduct the election in their electoral district. Some of their duties include: setting up an office hiring staff to work during the election, making sure the ballots are ready, assisting electors to register to vote, confirming the final count of the ballots, and declaring the winning candidate for their electoral district.

A provincial general election – an election in all of Ontario’s provincial electoral districts at the same time – is held every four years on the first Thursday in October, unless: that Thursday is a day of cultural or religious significance or the Lieutenant Governor in Council calls an election earlier at the request of the Premier.

Vijay, a philanthropist is a well-focused, dedicated and a family oriented business professional from the Mississauga East, Crooksville Community who understands the issues at grass-root level as faced each day by the residents here. When Daijiworld asked Vijay about his vision on his debut into Canadian politics, his response is – “Change is constant, but all change may not be good. Today Canada is facing daunting challenges to preserve its ‘Core Values’ – The foundation on which the country was built on. As a concerned citizen and a worried parent, I am taking this bold step towards politics to secure the future of the children, the youth and to safeguard the interests of the seniors and residents in our community. Come join me as I seek your support to make the change a better change for our society.”

A ‘Hands-On’ person coming from a humble background as an immigrant to Canada almost twenty years ago, Vijay Dante has faced many struggles and challenges which has helped to build him up as a upright, honest and hardworking Canadian. Today he wishes to share this wisdom and experience with the Cooksville community, and help build an ideal community, which will be a role model not just in Ontario but the whole of Canada.

Vijay’s earnest request is to participate in the ‘Signature Campaign’ to garner support from the riding of Everest Vijay Dante’s as an advocate of positive change in the Mississauga East, Cooksville community.
