Beltangady: Santhosh, lone accused in Sowjanya murder case, granted bail

Daijiworld Media Network - Beltangady

Beltangady, Apr 13: Santhosh Rao, the lone accused in the rape and murder of Sowjanya, has been granted bail by the special CBI court in Bengaluru.

Santhosh Rao, a resident of Bajagoli, Karkala, was arrested on October 11, 2012, two days after 17-year-old Sowjanya was found dead in a desolate spot in wooded area at Dharmasthala. He was said to be mentally ill at the time of the arrest.

Though Sowjanya's parents and activists had named four others as suspects, Santhosh was the lone accused in chargesheet filed by the CID. The CBI too, after taking charge of the case, gave clean chit to the others while investigation was on against Santhosh.

Now that four-and-a-half years of inquiry against Santhosh is over, the CBI court on Thursday April 13 granted bail to him.

Advocates Karunakar and Mohit are the counsel for Santhosh.

Santhosh is presently lodged in Mangaluru jail and will be released soon.

Mentally ill person committing rape and murder, can that same doctor prove a mentally ill person can rape and then murder too in a remote isolated place. Other four are given clean chit on what basis because they were mentally sound. This is same as drunk or disgruntled person desecrating holy places of his master's choice not any other place. BTW this mentally ill person had enough money to bail himself out or his masters helped???. Why was he in the jail for so long why not in mental asylum after obtaining clean chit of mentally ill???.

don't blame then govt please. it was completely under the banner of CBI the investigation done and now this unexpected verdict. Very much unexpected. Lone accused is given bail. OMG. for that they took 4 and a half years... what a judicial system we have. So ultimately no culprits in this case and lone accused is given bail. what a future we can expect in this state and country. Really scary.

BJP govt was in power in Karnataka when this incident was happened. But they did nothing to give justice to Sowjanya. They have given the free hand to culprits to escape and destroy the evidence. Then State govt is fully responsible for this mess and BJP is accountable.

    ABDUL RAFIQ, Uchila ,

If Police cannot find the accused....or don't want to find accused...its common practice of Police to make some insane person as an accused....to relieve the pressure...

I think this Santosh Rao is that unfortunate person to fill the Police/Judicial space/statistics ...

    ...JH...
