Mangaluru, Apr 13: Leftist organizations like Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and CPI (M) protested outside Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on Thursday, April 13. When the protesters tried to barge into the MCC office building, the police cordoned them off and arrested 32. Later all were released.

“Mayor Kavita Sanil is controlled by water tanker mafia. As per their pressure, she is creating scarcity of water. There is enough water in Thumbay dam. The water rationing was done with the intention of helping the tanker owners and water mafia. We will not allow this move.” said Muneer Katipalla, state president of DYFI while addressing the protestors.

Muneer urged the CC administration to release water on daily basis without any delay.

Police arrested the protestors to stop them from picketing MCC offices.

Sunil Kumar Bajal from CPI (M) Mangaluru, DYFI district secretary Santhosh Bajal, B.B Imthiaz, Sadiq Kannur, Naushad Bengre and Asha Bolur, were present among others.

We Manglorean's are facing water scarcity several years, but the MCC not bothered about this serious issue and keep on encouraging the existence of private water supplying mafias. Our Mayor is claiming that only 100 peoples are protesting and demanding for water. Yesterday 100 and tomorrow 200 and afterwards it will lead to a mass protest. It doesn't matter the number of people are protesting it is important why they are protesting. Requesting Mayor and all the working committee please take this issue seriously and work together to solve this major problem and find out some quick arrangement to fullfil the necessity of the Mangalorean's. All the agriculture lands are swalloved by the land mafias and the builders by the support of MCC. If we played against the mother nature we have to pay back and face the upcoming consequences. The day is not too far the people fight one another for a glass of water, so please think how to come up this predicament. Save Mangalore and Save your future Generation.
