Udupi, Apr 8: The renovated Siddiq-e-Akbar Jamia Mosque at Udyavar was inaugurated by Maulana Ubedullah Nadvi, founder of Zia Educational Trust, at Kandlur, Kundapur on Friday, April 7. The masjid was renovated at a cost of Rs 1 crore.
A formal stage programme was held at Halima Sabju auditorium, Udyavar.
Maulana Ubedulla Nadvi in his keynote address said, "Mosques should not be confined only to Namaz but should also be learning centres of social commitment. A masjid should be a place of worship, where people can pray in a peaceful atmosphere. It is a centre of devotion, harmony and peace.
"Mosque, the centre of worship in Islam symbolises devotion to the Almighty. Mosque occupies an important place in Islam, like a heart in the human body. A mosque is also a symbol of equality.
"Wisdom, obedience and conformity are the central ideas of Islam. Man is the supreme creation of Allah. He who lives as per Allah's words, follows the teachings pronounced and leads a life with social commitment is a real devotee of Allah," Nadvi said.
Udyavar Haleema Sabju Charitable Trust leader and honorary president of the Mosque, Al Haj Abdul Jaleel Saheb presided over the programme.
Minister of sports, fisheries and district in charge Pramod Madhwaraj, Kaup MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake, Davangere east zone IGP Dr M A Saleem, Udyavar Juma Masjid Imam Maulana Abdul Rashid Rehmani, Udyavar St Xavier church parish priest Fr Dr Roque D'Souza, Karnataka minority development corporation president M A Gafoor, Udupi zilla panchayat president Dinker Babu, former MLA Lalaji R Mendon, Udyavar grama panchayat president Sugandhi Shekar, vice president Riaz Palli, businessman F M Yakoob Khan, Malpe Masjid president Abdul Sattar Azeez, Udyavar Muslim Unity president Afzal Rashid, Udyavar Muslim young men's association president Mohammed Suhail were present as guests of honour.
Mosque chief priest Mohammed Ali recited the Qiraat. Chief secretary of the administrative board, Khalid Haider welcomed the gathering. Anwar Azees proposed the vote of thanks. Abid Ali compered the programme.
