Kundapur, April 8: The incident of assault on deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis and her staff brought about a new vigour in the district administration. Kundapur tahsildar G A Borker and his team who were active in Kandlooru since morning on Friday, April 7 conducted raids there.

The team raided the illegal sand mining units, lifted the boats used for sand mining through cranes and took into custody the sand and boats used for the purpose.

In the past, men who were involved in the mafia came to the spot during raids and hindered their operations. This time around, after the assault on the deputy commissioner, nobody came to obstruct the duty of the officials.

The absence of sand miners even after taking away their expensive boats was astonishing.

People are of the opinion that if the officials had conducted similar operations before the assault on DC and staff, there would have been no need for the DC to personally raid the hideouts.

The officials went to all illegal mining locations and dug trenches there to prevent sand mining.
